Do you walk the same way that you drive?

I walk in crowds the same way that I would drive on the road.

I mean that I stay on the right side, unless I am making an exit down another street or into a shop and when I do, I wait for an opening in the oncoming foot-traffic. If I want to stop, I go off the the side instead of blocking the way for others. I even sometimes "tailgate" people who walk way too slow and don't "pull over" to let people who want to go faster get by.

Do you do this too?

I don't drive, but I apply the rules of the road to walking. 10
I don't drive and I walk wherever I feel like it, regardless of others 5

Depends on how many people I am sharing the sidewalk with. But I do look over my shoulder when changing direction. It's those blind corners that get me. Never take the inside, that's asking for a close encounter with another pedestrian. Unless you want that. Which could be funny, depending on the person.

Not really. I walk very fast, most people have a hard time keeping up with my pace. I don't know why I do it. I generally go around people and it always seems that I am in a rush, even if I am not.

Ironically, I drive the speed limit or five miles above (depending on traffic and whether or not I am on the highway, in the city I rarely break the speed limit, we have jaywalkers out the wazoo here), depending on the pace of traffic, which is considered slow here in California. I have seen too many speed-related fatalities on the road to drive like a maniac all the darn time. I generally stay in the two right-most lanes and keep a distance of three car lengths between myself and guy in front of me, traffic permitting. I also let people in front of me quite frequently.

Although if all traffic is going the speed limit or under (like a bunch of people are dragging ass that day), I will get into the fast lane and take it to 85 to get ahead of the slugs so I don't have to be stuck behind them the entire time doing 55. That's just ridiculous.

  • I roll as fast as I can and people still try to run me over while walking. Wheelies get no respect, none at all.

I see people doing this at malls and such, walking on the right side and such. I have always wondered if people walk on the left side in malls in other parts of the world?

I was recently in china where they drive on the right (wrong) side of the road and i had a hard time remembering to walk on the wrong side of people. I wouldnt be confident driving in a country until I could walk there correctly.

  • Yes I do although I do it on the left side of the road as I'm from Britain and we drive on the correct side ;)

      • It actually goes back to the days of everyone riding horse, you would ride on the left as your right hand was your sword hand so you could strike someone coming in the opposite direction :)

Yes I do! The roads are full of bad drivers and slow drivers and the sidewalks are full of bad walkers and slow walkers! I always overtake them. Sometimes even tailgate them. And if I can't get past, I can tell them to move. Too bad I can't "honk". That would be awkward. And the best thing is, if there is a "crash", there is no damage! :D So if I wanted, I could "crash" into people for the heck of it! :D

Well yeah. It is the same thing without a vehicle. That is why you go with the current not against it.

Yea I do this. I also make the engine noises, you know revving when people cut me up or squealing my tyres when I accelerate quickly. Get a few odd looks, but FUCK IT!

I can't fucking stand slow walkers. It's even worse when there's a line of them and you can't get past. I have elbowed people in the face and they always make a song and dance about it. If you walk at a snail's pace, at least let other people go past.

I don't drive but I follow driving rules when walking. If I'm somewhere with a lot of cars moving around (like a supermarket car park), I'm usually as aware of the flow of traffic and people's intentions as any driver would be.

I walk quickly and sometimes wish other pedestrians were more aware of their surroundings (I'm fed up of people just stopping dead for no reason without checking if someone is behind them; my friend used to deliberately continue his momentum and trample them to teach them a lesson).

I'll just say I am just as impatient and downright mean when I walk as I am when I drive.
