Do younger people drain your energy?

Firstly, understand that I am 21 years old, and I am also somewhat of an introverted type of person. My job is serving coffee to customers at a coffee shop at a college (ironic for an introvert, I know). On the shifts I work, there isn't normally too many customers and most of them are college-aged. All in all it's a pretty relaxed job and I'm super glad and fortunate to have it, because I know it could be much worse. I have had WAY worse jobs in the past and I really like my current one.

It has taken me a little while to get used to it, but I'm starting to get the hang of dealing with different types of people. The other day, we were catering for an event and there was a pretty good amount of customers for the most part of the day. I probably made at least one-hundred Mocha Frappuccinos, but I can usually handle that pretty well. The system for making drinks is pretty simple once you know how.

However, what really got to me, I later realized, was the younger people that I was serving which I am not used to. They were mostly younger teenagers, probably around 12-14 years old. It really wore me out for some reason and I haven't felt that drained for a while. They are loud and active and just full of energy! Seriously, I was extremely exhausted and I think I was socially drained. I had no idea that youngsters could be so life sucking! Lol. I don't think I could ever be a teacher or something like that, but maybe it's just something that you have to be used to. My bones literally ached.

Can you relate?

12 to 14 year old hopped up on sugar and caffeine would drain the Energizer Bunny.

I'm 18, and spending long periods of time with my 2-year-old nephew can be very draining. Although, I usually play with him, which is very tiring in itself. I'm not sure it's the same, but I understand the feeling:P!

    I can relate and i'm only 19.
Kind of sad if you think about it. 19/21 is considered young yet a few minutes around 14 year olds and we turn into old farts aha

Starbucks is already a gargantuan laxative. If you gave the customers any more, they'd be on the toilet for days not to mention the barista would be fired for adding laxatives to their drinks.

The preteens drain my energy. Any younger or older and I can handle everything perfectly fine without getting exhausted.

They are kids so yeah. They are suppose to hyper and filled with energy. However here is a useful solution that might even pay for college one day. Put them in sports it will pay off in the long run. In highschool/college they make you keep up your grades. So you know they are going to have to pass to stay in sports.

No I got it I just went a little of off topic. Anyways yes it is normal. Young people are very active and sociable. It is completely normal you are worn out. The younger you are the more energy you seem to have. So a 14 year old would probobly be a bit more energetic next to a 20 year old. A person who is 20 might also ware out a 40 year old. Was it really the kids though or was it the fact you had a lot of customers.

        • Ok, yeah.

I think it really was the fact that they were kids. There was a lot of them, but I've handled large influxes of customers before and never did I feel that exhausted mentally and physically.

Teenagers drain me so I can relate to that. Younger kids generally seem to be more hyper but less of a mental drain.

    • These were mainly young teens and pre-teens. Definitely not my usual crowd.

I too can relate. My peers and younger people tend to tire me out. They have so much energy that being around them is bing infected by parasites. O_O

Im well known for my energy. When I give my 12 year old cousin Red Bull, I can run her into the ground at age 20. Shes extremely hyper, but nothing compared to my hyperactivity.
