Does anyone else share this belief?

I'm an atheist, I completely reject the notion of any god or gods under any definition, but I also don't pay attention to the big bang theory or other scientific theories for the creation of life such as The big bounce, science changes, it always does, it evolves as human progress continues, things that were once cutting edge are now accepted as outdated and invalid and I believe the same thing will happen to our current scientific understanding

Basically I believe we don't know how we got here, how the universe came to be, that the creation of it or if you want to get in to quantum mechanics the idea of it always having had existed is ( although scientific only in nature ) beyond human understanding and I don't think we'll ever find out the answers

I ask because it seems every time I get into conversation about my ideas on creation and belief I always tend to get treated as if I'm some kind of nut even though I always thought it to be quite rational, so, iin?

I agree! I think science is constantly improving. Human life is a constant search for knowledge and improvement.

Ignoring the possibility of a deity seems rather ignorant to me, but you have the right to do so.
Personally, I think Creation requires faith just like the theory of the Big Bang - none of us can truly go back and know what happened.

But how come ignoring the possibility of a deity is ignorant to you but ignoring the possibility of there not being one isn't?

I'm not saying theists are ignorant, not at all it just seems like a double standard

Completely agree with your last point though :)

I guess I'm pretty much opposite to you. In my school we were fed the theory of the Big Bang like it was a matter of fact.
Researching it for hours, I found there were plenty of unfilled gaps, and also concluded that we aren't fortune tellers to know what happened billions of years before we were alive.
And my friends claim to be atheist, but can't even explain in detail the theory that they believe in!
But yeah. To each his own, right?
By the way, I heard you're a Gunner. Liverpool FC will always prevail. Just wait for the next season :)

But that's a common misconception with atheism, people treat it like a religion, like it comes with set morals and life stances, all athiesm is defined as is a lack of belief in god or gods, that's it, two athiests can have opposite views on literally everything apart from that, therefore any theory your friend has that he struggles to convey isn't to do with his athiesm at all, it's just his own personal philosophical belief removed from that of atheism

And as for the actual part of not being able to describe his belief in detail, you said it yourself, no one can truly know what happened, many answers in life have no definitive answers so I think it's kind of unfair to judge him on not being able to define all his beliefs with precision

But you are right, to each his own, I think the world would be a boring place if everyone believed in the same things and if people didn't have the kind of discussions we're having right now :)

Haham we'll see, we'll see ;) but I have heard of some rumoured Liverpool transfers that have me keeping an eye on them haha

  • Sounds logical to me. Science is always being proven wrong. I have many of my own theories that do not match with any belief, science nor religion, although I think science is at least based on observable data. I think its likely that reality cycles into itself, but no set beginning nor an end. Just an infinate possibility of events that our minds happen to perceive in chronological order because that is the only way we can comprehend whats happening.

I think we will never really know the answers to these questions. I have no real interest in the answers to these questions. I think trying to answer them is a complete waste of time. I can think of better things do to with my life than worry about where life came from.

You're not a "nut" everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs.

The only way we will ever know is when we die.
Or for people who believe in reincarnation, when the earth dies I guess.

I watched this today and enjoyed it. We will never have all the answers, just more questions. And that's okay.

We are Liverpool! Many people here support LFC. One day I hope I would be able to watch a match ar Anfield. If I win the lottery. :/

I should really calm down. Sorry

The fact is, the universe is a continuos cycle of life and death and your mere existence here is only a passing thought to the universe.

Eventually the universe will be collapse in on itself and life will cease to exist and then something spectacular will happen. The universe will be reborn again starting a new cycle.

But how do you know it's a fact?

I don't think current human scientific understanding has the technology to prove that, there are many people respected in their fields of study, people who have spend their lives answering the kinds of questions that most of us would fail to get our heads around that would agree with you, however there are also many people, equally qualified, who have also spend their lives studying the same principles who would disagree, so if they can't agree how can someone like me or you who regardless of intelligence haven't spend a portion of our life studying this

As I said it's not a matter of intelligence, I realised after I wrote this that maybe it sounded a little snarky, wasn't my intention :)

          I understand (:

I also may have come across incorrectly. I completely agree with you about humans lacking the technology to understand such things.

I also don't think we are meant to.

Yeah, if I'm honest the idea of completely understanding the space around us and the laws it abides by sound boring to me, a little mystery is interesting

              I think it's mankinds drive.

If you look in the history books, we have always tried to work out where we have come from. Either through religion or science. We seem to be obsessed about it.

Why do you think that? The one statement doesn't logically follow on from the other, just the way you're saying it is giving it gravitas. But why would things repeat in the same way?
