Does everyone hear "the sound of silence"?

I have a constant very high-pitched white-noise-ish sound in my ears, which I can only hear when there's almost no other sound.

It's not tinnitus, or at least not normal tinnitus, because I do get tinnitus from time to time so I know what it sounds like.

Tried looking it up and found someone talking about something that seemed like it could be what I have, referring to it as the "Sound of Silence", and saying that everyone has it.

Does everyone have it? Looking up "The sound of silence" just shows music.

Apparently you don't know what tinnitus sounds like. What you are describing is tinnitus. It can sound different at lower volumes.

tinnitus, the kind I said I get from time to time apparently does happen in healthy people for a few seconds, just like me.

if you're implying that one can have two forms of tinnitus at the same time then that's news to me.

I imagine it's the same as when you close your eyes and your brain makes up static.

I think it's There for everyone if they pay attention. I've noticed it. I think it's similar to the kinda fuzzy background you see in pitch black.

Yes, except it's not high pitched but more like wind or a fan and it's very low I only hear it at night when trying to sleep and it's not every night. Some nights it's louder than others.

Yep there's been a number of studies done on this and I believe everyone hears it although it may sound slightly different to each individual

Just curious, but does this happen ANYWHERE that it’s totally quiet?

I know that some people can just hear higher frequencies than others, and that things like electronics sometimes produce high pitched sounds.

Maybe you’re hearing some kind of high frequency sound coming from your neighbor’s place or something? Just an idea.

I know someone who has tinnitus too. He’s also partially deaf and it’s like his hearing aids give him this weird ability to pick up high frequency sounds that nobody else can hear. We used to work together and he’d be able to find broken equipment just by following his ears. Your post just reminded me of that lol

I do hear it anywhere quiet enough, but it's so quiet that it really doesn't affect my hearing, and is just annoying.

I'm assuming that what I hear is just some system in my body like blood flowing through my brains
