Does high school have an impact on your life after?

As much as Id like to think it doesn't, I feel it does, very unfortunately. Whether you were popular or an outcast, its the independent variable that your "real life" after (the dependent variable) is affected by. For instance, if you were popular, you'll most likely end up being confident wherever you go regardless of carrying that popularity w you for the rest of your life. If you were the outcast (me), the probability of you building different social skills because of how hs treated you is high. Perhaps some have turned out the opposite of who they were in hs but that background/status will always be there affecting you somehow. Personally, I try to stay away from hs people but still living in the place for college doesnt help. So I plan to transfer and come back and show my face when I know I have legit changed and proving everyone wrong but right now I still feel the same insecure, outcast type so Im not ready or it could also be that it takes a while to satisfy me so I might be good to go to prove everyone but I want more. So who can enlighten me about this problem? Does Hs really make an impact? If not, I hope you truely convince me it doesnt and Ill be 10x happier from then on.

Hs does make an impact because... 38

well you base your current experiences on your past ones so it inevitably would impact your life, atleast until you learn how retarded HS truly is.

Meh, it depends on the person really.

In a way HS affects everyone, but how much it affects them may be different for everyone.

I wasn't known by everyone in my class but I wasn't an outcast either. Sure I wasn't the best at talking in front of the class or as friendly as possible to classmates I didn't associate with, but I never thought not developing those skills more like I should have would have made my social anxiety reach a peak in college like it did.

Most of my memories of HS are great ones that focus on my friends and events that went on there, the only negative memories I have is probably the academics :p but hey that's just me.

If anything the thing that affected me the most in high school was watching how it affected my friends the most. Social anxiety aside. It's made me a lot more considerate and if there is one thing I took with me from HS it was not to be so quick to judge people.

Agreed. It's also really interesting to watch the "wild" kids from high school slip into normal, mundane lives. Likewise, it's interesting to see some of the "nerds" become very successful and/or marry trophy wives.

Everyone keeps telling me that HS doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

However, I can say that HS was excessively overrated.

well it killed my self esteem, that's for sure.

  • Most people let it go, but some still cling to those memories, good or bad, and it defines who they are.

I think it depends on the person and the type of life they live.

    • I also feel it defines who you are now so that's when you explain to people you just met, "Oh I wasn't really noticed in hs" and the other person responds,"Ah no wonder youre like this"...womp.

High school may or may not have any direct impact on your life, but it may likely be around that time that your personality will evolve into it's final form.

Well at least here where I live, going to a high school is considered a normal thing to do. If you choose a vocational school instead, you're basically considered a retard.

So it at least has an impact on your social status, but only for a few years. After starting your career or graduating from a university, nobody really cares if you went to a high school or not.

Virtually no ongoing impact on me. And I'm not just saying that to make you feel better.

  • Yes high school is a retarded extravaganza of insecurities, doubts, and miscommunications but so is the rest of life.

The moronic and intellectually dishonest are everywhere. What can be done though? You can't spend your life gazing hopelessly into the night. Light a light and watch it spread.

Guys get this- It Can't Be Stopped.
