Does the is it normal community reflect the general population?

Leaving aside for the moment demographic considerations such as age groups and location, I wonder to what extent the is it normal community represents average people. It has been questioned before whether opinions and percentages given on this website provide a true picture of normality. Personally, I'd say that no one is abnormal in every way, so that someone who has strange food cravings, could still give "normal" feedback to a question concerning work, just as an example. So I think that mostly yes.

Yes, the people on here are from all walks of (normal) life 4
Mostly yes (except for trolls etc.) 15
I'm not sure 6
Mostly not (exc. for a minority of normal ppl with minor abnormalities 3
No, this site attracts people who are not normal from the outset 15
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I agree with you. And I'd add that the focus on this site is generally on the abnormal.

Yesterday, I didn't sleep with someone the same gender, or a relative, or animal, I didn't do strange things with bodily fluids, I didn't take any drugs or eat anything odd. Nothing strange happened in my sleep. Very little happened at all, really. Just a Saturday.

But when we read posts on here, how many of us think, "This is a weird post, but I'm sure 95% of site users are acting normally right now"?

Lol. Dappled has commented on almost every posting I have read on this site. I wouldn't consider is activity on IIN "abnormal", he just likes consistency in that he must stay consistent with commenting on every posting. =P

I mean, everyone who's here mostly got here from searching something about them that was not normal. So we probs have more of the weirder side of the population. But what the fun of having all the normal people? Haha

I think IIN crowd is more open minded, kinder, & more irreverent than general population.

In a short way of explaining it:

Those who worry about whether or not something they are doing or feeling is normal, are generally normal people.

Those who are kinky as all hell, or weirder than a 40-year old creeper, don't bother going on this site because they couldn't give a damn what other people thought.

I don't think my gran, my Quaker friend, or the drug dealer I lived with for a bit will ever be on here. It's mostly people who wonder if they're normal and (at least initially) care if they are. But as that seems to be fairly typical...well, IIN folks do seem fairly, well, normal.

  • Since this site has a low tolerance for hate comments, uneducated writing formats, and trolling, I'd say it's hard to find EVERY social category here on IsItNormal. Maybe it's for the best?
