Does the pope represent most christians regarding gays?

The Pope recently said that the Catholic Church should ask for forgiveness from Gays and others it has marginalised.

He went further, adding: “Someone who has this condition, who has good will and is searching for God, who are we to judge?”

Do you think this will make a difference, or will the Gay community remain ostracized by Christians?

Yes - The Pope voices the opinion of most Christians 25
No - The Pope is out of touch with God. 24

Most of the hardcore "Catholics" in my opinion have their heads WAY too far up their asses regarding this topic... Seriously, hating on someone simply because of who they love..? Goddamn...

Catholic is not Christian for one thing, and for another thing the Catholic church is seeing a decline in fellowship and finances so they have turned more 'progressive' recently.

On what basis do you state that catholicism isn't christian? What else could it be?

In an obnoxious display of self-righteousness, some Christians say that Catholicism is actually pagan. They are unaware that there percieved self-superiority is shallow stifling and foul; as is all religion in general.

That's sort of like asking why Jews and Christians aren't the same since they have the same God. Catholics don't follow the same rules. Christians of any denomination believe that faith in Christ is enough for salvation while Catholics believe there are more factors and a mere belief in Christ is not enough. Catholics believe in confession, Christians talk directly to God like God said to. Baptism is different. Communion. Idolatry. Who Mary was. A pope??? The list goes on.

Who is the central prophet of Catholicism?

          Jesus Christ...

          ...

          "Christ"

          CHRIST...ian

          Christians.

"Christian" is an umbrella term, it encompasses any religion that venerates Jesus CHRIST (the hint is in the name, "Christ"ians) as the major prophet. Catholicism is one branch, Eastern Orthodoxy is another, and what you are calling "Christianity" (which is actually Anglo-Saxon Protestantism and Evangelicalism) is another.

It's comparable to in Islam, where you have Sunni and Shia and other branches. All Islamic, different forms.

If you don't believe that faith in Christ alone is salvation then, no, you are not a Christian. That goes against what God and Christ said. Not to mention all the other bullshit.

I think if given the choice, people would prefer to follow a profit than a prophet.

The pope doesn't represent most christians because most Christians are not Catholic.

Nooooooooo. The pope is the false prophet.

He does NOT represent any Christian. Only his own corrupt beliefs.

Now he wants Christians to apologize to gays.

I am Christian. I am bi-sexual. I used to be straight. And I STILL believe people should be straight.

If you dont know the consequences gayness can have on people, then you wont see the possibly doomed future it could bring.

You honestly believe the Pope is looking out for you? lol

Have you not been listening to the things he has been saying??

He is the false prophet. The bible I believe talks about this!

Saying he cant judge gays when the bible CLEARLY says gay people are bad. Come on!

Any Christians who follow the word of "God" in the Bible hate Gays. The Bible clearly says homosexuality is a sin. Fortunately many Christians don't really take the Bible seriously, and don't follow it's laws.

    Priests are hypocrites

"We love everyone" they claim... as they tell gays to repress their sexuality for God while they bend the choirboys over the altar behind closed doors.

The hypocrisy doesn't end there. Christians (of all denominations, not just Catholics) who were not virgins on their wedding day, who cheat on their spouses, who never attend church, suddenly become pious and holier-than-though when the subject of homosexuality (or abortion) comes up. Fuck 'em. (if that doesn't apply to you, you shouldn't be offended).

The Pope is trying to be progressive, I'm not gonna knock that as a gay person myself. I think he's fighting an uphill battle though. The scripture says what it says and it's not going to be re-written. I don't care much, I just want a secular society where religious values and sensibilities are not valued above the law.

The pope is head of the roman catholic church and that's definitely does not include all christians. I don't get the people on here saying that church isn't christian: I don't follow it or any other religion, but it's obviously christian in its belief system even if frequently not in its practice.

I wonder what the pope meant by the term "condition": that he regards homosexuality as a mental condition or what?

It should also be understood that the catholic church has stated for decades and maybe longer that it doesn't condemn homosexuals for their sexuality as long as they don't express it physically, which is a ridiculous distinction in my opinion.

Catholic priests can call into your phone sex line for gay fantasy masturbation fun. Why would Jesus give a fuck about that?

I don't give a fuck either: and no caller has ever identified himself as a priest or any other religious person and to be honest, that had never occurred to me! I don't know why you're assuming they'd be calling me for gay phone sex: given that I'm a woman that just doesn't make any sense at all.

Or a young girl: priests didn't only sexually abuse boys, you know. My normal phone voice sounds like that of a mature sexy woman, or so I'm told.

I read that in Italian, the word for "Condition", is the same as the word for "Situation". Supposedly, the Pope actually meant "Someone who is in this situation, who has good will and is searching for God, who are we to judge?”

I read an interesting article from a Rabbi recently (yes I know, not Christian, but you share the Old Testiment) that while homosexuality is regarded as an abomination, there were 612 other commandments/rules that a homosexual Jew still needed to heed.

Although I am agnostic, I also wonder, as science has determined that homosexuality is at least in part a genetic disposition, and Judaism/Christianity both hold that we are made in God's image, if God himself was at least a little "bi curious".

I do find it interesting that the Pope, as leader of the Catholic faith, which has always held rather a hard line against homosexuals, is now adopting a more accepting approach. Other Christian religious groups have already adopted a more accepting stance towards homosexuality, perhaps as they say "the Lord works in mysterious ways" and people of faith are going to start leaving the judging to their God.

The Christian Bible considers homosexuals as sinners. However the forgiveness of sin is also a huge part of the Christian religion. And it was Jesus Christ himself who died on the cross in order to atone for all the sins of man. There seems to be a paradox here. As a Christian and a homophobic male, I have always wondered about this. But the Pope is the leader of my faith(I am a Catholic) and I do not question any of his statements regarding my faith. He is telling us to ask God to forgive them; it is not up to us to withhold the asking of forgiveness. But not all Christians are of the Catholic faith. Not all Christians will ask God to forgive this sin.
