Does therapy really work ?

Long story short, I have anger problems and I don't know how to deal with it. I have these urges to beat the shit out of everyone, which caused me to drop my friends and block out my family. I've been anti social for about 4 years now and I feel like everything just keeps getting worse. I constantly get myself into fights and I absolutely hate people.
My family wants me to start therapy, but I don't think it'll work. Which brings me to my question, does therapy work for anger problems ? Will it make be feel better ?

It only works if you want it to. If you want to get better, put effort into, and stay open minded it can work.

Exercise and nutrition. Minimize drug use (e.g. coffee, alcohol). Improve sleeping habits. Forget therapy. Speaking from experience.

do u want to know the truth?
therapy is just a guide. the question is do you want therapy? YES OR NO?
The truth is anger outbreaks is ur brains own therapeutic release BUT if u living in "do or die" circumstances.
You need to re-evaluate ur current surroundings and realising what impact ur anger has on yourself first, only then can u start finding what ur impact is on loved ones and others. Trust me I know when I say it takes quite a few f.ed up mistakes to realise you are not only hurting others, but in fact you hurting yourself more. Every time I punch, break my surroundings or physically injured someone, I dipped deeper into guilt. and once you gonna pass the point of no return it might be too late.
I manged to REDUCE my anger by accepting what people told me was actually really happening. when this happened it was not there words but the look of fear in there eyes, I felt and still feel ashamed, but I still try day by f,n day to compositor my self...not for the sake of others...but for me wanting to be better for myself with others so they can see me at least trying to be better for me for them. THE ONLY THERIPY IS KNOWING WHAT YOU WANT TO BE AND PLANNING HOW TO GET THERE!

A good therapist and willingness to go into your issues is essential. If, after 4-6 sessions, you're not clicking with your therapist, don't be afraid to get a new one. If they say something really offensive and you bring it up and they don't try to settle it nicely, leave immediately and find a new one. Don't let a bad therapist mess things up for you. There are many awesome ones out there that can help you. Group therapy is also and option, as you learn from other people and find that you can contribute to helping people figure out their problems too. Remember, a therapist works for YOU, and you can "let them go" without fear.

it depends on who's giving it to you. therapy is also an extremely vague term and could mean anything from giving you a lobotomy(surgical procedure where they basically cut your brain stem making you a vegetable for the rest of your life like terry schivo.) to talking about your relationships for an hour every week.

It won't work if you don't want it to. Therapy is like life; you get out of it exactly what you put in. Go in with a positive attitude and wanting to change, and you'll do yourself well. Btw, you've already taken the first big step by admitting you have a problem. Many people don't get that far.

It's not for everyone, but it works for some people. Some people (like me) just need one special person in their life they can just talk to about nothing. Some people go running instead. Some people get really into music.

Everybody has a way to distress, you just gotta find yours.
