Dogs are omnivores, so he really should be eating some meat. I had a dog who would go crazy over carrots, and my dog now loves broccoli. Just don't feed it onions or anything with onions in it because those are actually deadly. The same dog that loved carrots almost died after stealling a pot of spaghetti, and the vet told us that.
Personally, I would change dog food. There's supplements in there it really should be getting that just eating human food it won't be getting.
I am sorry I voted no but I really meant yes! It is normal! And as for dog food there is basically no federal regulations controlling what can and cannot go in it so it is mostly crap. That's why American pets increasingly become diabetics! There are cheap home recipes you can make, even without animal products, and then you can buy supplements. or simply inform yourself online about better quality dog food, the ones without TV ads, that are made of real wholesome ingredients. Your dog is a fine palate: good for him
My three year old Lab will eat anything I touch first. It's normal. It's also normal for you to limit your dogs diet to foods that are made for him. One small piece of apple or carrot is fine and sometimes fun to watch. Then give him a bowl of kibble for his real dinner.
dogs need greens to help digest meat. i give my dogs fruit and vegetables but you just need to make sure the food you give them is okay for them to eat. for example dogs shouldnt eat grapes, onions and potatos. just check with your vet to see if they have a list of safe foods to give your pets. grass is also excellent for dogs to eat, it helps clean out their stomaches.
Try a better brand of dog food. One of my cats will only eat organic cat food for whatever reason-- Some of our animal friends are picky eaters, I guess! The veggies are good snacks (I used to feed my dog carrots and asparagus all the time), but your friend is going to need something more substantial. If he won't eat a better brand of dog food, ask your vet about what info you'll need to cook your friend some dog food at home.
This reminds me of that Portlandia meme with the hipster dog declining bacon strips, as he is vegan. Anyway, I've observed this in dogs before. This English Terrier was presented with a piece of steak, accompanied with an apple. He gobbled the apple slice, sniffing at the steak and walking away complacently. A cute fella.
good with the veg...bu they do need meat...or at the very least a protein supplement...is it just canned food you've tried...you may have a picky dog that needs something fresher :) Best get a vet to check before changing a diet :)
I had a dog who used to love carrots. But they were supplementary to her diet as opposed to the bulk of it. Dogs pretty much need meat. You'd struggle to come up with a healthy diet for a dog that didn't include meat.
He needs other food but those are good snacks. Make sure he doesn't eat the seeds though!
Yeah, dogs aren't omnivores, (eat plants and meat) they are carnivores, and its not healthy for them to eat plants. Try feeding it some fresh meat from table scraps, and if that doesn't work I think it might need to see a vet.
