Dressing like the music you listen to

My style hasn't really changed since high school, it's still mostly emo/punk aesthetic and all of my clothes are black or very dark colors. I have broadened my music taste a bit since then though.

As a 28 year old I normally look like a dumpster fire.

I still dress up in my band shirts + trousers + black makeup

If I dressed like the music I listen to, I'd be wearing a robot costume covered in hearts. Instead, I dress the same way I add music to my library: Lazily. Whatever my hand lands on is what I put on.

Yes, in my late teens and early 20's Grunge ripped jeans and band t shirts.I'm past that phase, be yourself or you will cringe looking back.

I do when I go to the show. I can say 30 songs about the band's of my teeshirts lol. Its kinda gross when people don't know anything about the band and they're wearing the shirt.

I'm 31. I've dressed in mostly black since I was 14. My taste in music is very varied.

I've grown up with what I typically wear now. From tshirts and sweatshirts to tshirts and long sleeve button ups. Jean's for life though.

Cant tell what I listen to with that line of fashion choice.

I have punk friends (older gen x guys) who still have small touches of their subculture in their attire, it’s less in your face. I suppose with some of that music it transcends all that and becomes ideological, political, even spiritual, it’s identity as well as style

I'd love to have the confidence to dress as alternatively as my tastes... but I don't. I've had the importance of looking professional and all that jazz drummed into me for too long, I'm afraid of what might happen if I go too far towards "the deep end" and it's hard to find plus sized alternative stuff that I look and feel OK in.

OK... maybe not necessarily that hard, but it will be a bit of a hunt to get a wardrobe that does everything I want and need it to do AND feel OK wearing what feels appropriate and/or right when.

On a not-quite-related note: Most adult parties seem to have a dress code, and some can be very gatekeepery. Lots of encouragement to wear fetish gear (Most of which I hate the look and feel of) and some even gatekeep those who they feel are being culturally appropriative.
People in feather headdresses or bindhis, I totally get... but people in locs who aren't black-looking are really not a deal.
Would be nice to find an adult party that's not so fussy! Latex and rubber look gross on almost everyone and the fact that some parties will turn you away if you're not dressed shockingly enough is offputting. Why don't they think about people's safety and provide changing areas?

No, I've never really been *that* into music. I enjoy it as background noise and do like to listen to it, but I don't really get into the subcultures of genres. I've always pretty much just dressed in what was comfortable for the most part.
