Dropping babies

I have a morbid fear of dropping babies. They're so cute but I never want to hold one because I have terrible butter fingers. I do not want to get married and have kids for the sole purpose of my horrible fear. I'd rather be lonely than to have to hold a baby and risk dropping the poor sweetie and watching him/her splatter all over the floor in a big bloody mess of brain matter and entrails.

I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME, BRING MYSELF TO HOLD A BABY AND I NEVER EVER WILL!!

Is this normal!?

I'm sure babies aren't made like water balloons,
they won't burst open if you drop them unless you were holding one up on a skyscraper and you drop it over the edge, but still, I doubt that would happen.

I have to kids and dear just sit down and hold them they aren't a fragile as you think whatsoever, just try sitting on a nice soft.couch.or pile of pillows so you feel more secure.

Why should you drop a baby? I doubt it. Maybe your just scared of hurting them, because their so fragile.

  • Well, their heads are humongous compared with their bodies and it makes them all top-heavy.

I used to feel a lot like you, except I didn't let my concern escalate to the point where I'd swear off ever getting married or having/holding babies. That just seems stupid, honestly.

Anyway, my feelings changed when my nephews were born, then I got a lot of practice holding them. It wasn't nearly as bad as I'd ever imagined it. They're really not that heavy and I was extra careful with my footing when I walked around holding them. Once they're a little older, but are still babies who like to be held, they'll hold on to you too - like little monkeys. Which, at that point, is great because they're also much heavier.

Perhaps if someone offers their baby for you to hold, you could ask them how you should hold them. They'll probably be happy to help you out. There's a right and a wrong way to do it which makes it both comfortable and safe for the infant. Also, it might be best if you are sitting down the first few times you hold one.

Most babies bump their head from falling by falling off of something they are placed on; like a sofa or a bed. It's rare for them to be 'dropped'.
