Early morning television depresses me?

When I wake with the TV the early morning infomercials and/or the gospel readings, I become depressed.

I get over it as the day goes on. Usually immediately after I put in a movie. Changing the channel is useless because 4am-7am are all infomercials and gospel.

Ive traced this feeling back to when i was around 14 years old. I had SEVERE depression and would wake early for school. The only things on were infomercials and music videos. For some reason, a.m. tv is the only thing that really reverberates the depression. As of now I don't believe I suffer from depression. I have no clue why it completely puts me down after all these years (I'm 24 now)

IIN?

Could it be because I didn't "properly" deal with the depression and overcame it myself?

I have never even told my family or friends about it.

I'm often up at odd hours due to insomnia but it's rare I'll watch scheduled programming between 2am and about 4pm. It's all pointless gobshites pretending to be interested in a load of old toss.

Apart from when they started to show women's beach volleyball at 4:30am. It was quite interesting.

It is possible that you have associated those feelings with the early morning TV that you watched.

I do have to admit, early morning television programs are depressing. I remember when I was younger and I had a tendency to wake up at all hours and I would not be able to fall asleep so I would turn on the tube and see... that bullshit.

Nowadays, I do not have cable, rather, I have Netflix so when I wake up in the early manana, I can just watch Star Trek. Much better than infomercials about exercise equipment.

      +1 to this.

Music or the radio are the best things to listen to in the mornings, and the radio doesn't seem quite as corrupt as television is.

The only thing I don't really care for about listening to the radio is the (somewhat) inability to mute commercials lest you miss the broadcast when it comes back on since there is no visuals...

Anyway, I am glad you have overcome your depression OP. I know that wasn't an easy thing to accomplish.

Understandable, that is. Have you ever noticed how chirppy-cheep-cheep does people on morning news are?! It's like they are trying to rub their caffeinated happiness into people's faces. While it represents some of their viewers it does not represent all of them! Most people are groggy and cranky when they wake up. The sun blinds them.

I feel similarly. Because if you're watching it, like Good Morning America, or one of those shows, you either don't have a job, or are retired, (old women love it). So old age and joblessness has always been my impression when I watch it. Kinda weird.

I'm not sure because I love early morning tv. Daybreak, Lorraine, This Morning, Jeremy Kyle, Loose Women.

      Exactly.

There's plenty of other things to do besides watch tv.

Read a book. Knit a scarf. Walk the dog. Read IIN

If I wake and its on I'll turn it off, but sometimes when I can't sleep ill put Netflix on or something.

Haha weird thing is, I'll flip through channels first I guess in hopes of finding something.

The only thing I watch on TV is The Bad Girls Club, and that's as bad as it gets.
