Equal outcome is cancer

As society its important to have equality. But I think we should never go too far to try to legislate to give equal outcome. I like the concept of Equal opportunity however by trying to achieve equal outcome it comes at the beheast of equal outcome. Because equality in alot of ways is a myth. We arent equal. Some people will be born smarter. Some people will be born with athletic gifts but basic intelligence. Some people will be born with 9 inch cocks...

This isnt exactly a fair hand. So just because group A or B doesnt have enough of its population graduating college doesnt cause for alarm to me. Especially with affirmative action giving many advantages allowing people with lower test scores into ivy league schools because they're minorities. If you want to get into the school study hard and score high on the SAT. Then you get a scholarship.

But see the problem is some of these minorities have trouble scoring as high as asians. Because of that the bleeding hearts come in and say "this isnt fair too many asians are getting in!" And then boom they let in a minority with a lower score than the asian. Trying to give the minorities equal outcome ruined the equal opportunity for the asians and other "winning" groups.

Dispite agreeing about it I dont care for people just posting stories or manifestos. At least work a question in there. This isnt twitter or reddit.

People just get lazy with these concepts. You raise the amount of minorities in college by encouraging them to go to college. They will be more likely to go if they do better in school (and have the money to afford it). They will do better in school if they have proper support and good teachers. The school's support is less necessary if the kids have a good situation at home.

The reason certain demographics are doing better isn't because they're inherently smarter, it's because they have better support at home, and this flows down the path up to college.

But trying to reach parents is apparently too hard because adults suck, so we just say "whatever, make the tests easier." It doesn't help anybody. Ask your nearest successful minority about his or her family. Did they push themselves because of them, or in spite of them? It's an important detail.

Not the OP but if everything is equal then no one is poor but no one is rich. I'd rather be poor living with the hopes of becoming rich than just live a mundane life.

Agreed. I came from a rich family but I resented how weak that made me become. So I'm doing honest work so I can make an honest living... I wanna build my own castle so to speak.

Important note: A lot of regions in the US no longer use SATs as a way to judge college entrance. It's now almost entirely based on your 9-12 grades with a slight preference for ACT scores of 18 or higher.

      Just 18+

Makes me feel better about a score of 23.

Honestly I think the militaries asvab score has more to do with your capacity to learn more than anything.

I'm sure that more prestigious colleges look for higher ACT scores, but the general rule is that most look for 18 and up. It's a symptom of standardized testing falling out of favor in general.

The asvab is a better metric for your capacity to learn, rather than you being good at learning answers for a test.

It's not based on a standard test metric. It's based on everyone who takes the test. So getting a 50 means you scored in the 50th percentile.

Believe it or not the army and marines dont want abnormally unintelligent people to serve so their cut off is the 13th percentile.

I scored in the 84th percentile, doesnt make me a genius by any metric but it did allow me to pick pretty much any job (navy and airforce allows you to pick)

Could of been a nuke with those credentials but the schooling is grueling so I chose a more standard inteligence job.

They did ask for me to take a cryptographer test. That's where I learned it was a miracle that I learned english (my only language) in the first place.

          • They wont even let you take the ASVAB in the marine corps if you have a GED. I scored a college ready score which means Id be accepted in most colleges with that score. A few points higher and I could have qualified for starting college with credits. But they only accept highschool diplomas surprisingly.
