Espanol is making me sick.

Hello all. I work in a 160 room large hotel chain in Florida. Only person on shift at night as the Night Auditor. I'm in school for Law Enforcement to become a police officer. Every night I check in mostly people from Texas. They usually come in groups of 100's. And the all get mad because I don't speak Spanish. They're first question "Espanol?" And when I say "no" they talk amognst themselves. I've grown accquanited with the word "poonta" and I'm starting to get sick of it. They then try to make reservations in Spanish, and when I ask for "telefono" they repeat like "cinco cinco ses" and when I finally say I don't understand you, they get aggravated. Whos in the right and who's in the wrong? Thanks!

  • If White people were to go down to Mexico and expect that the locals learn English, begin celebrating American holidays, and cease displaying their own flag due to concerns regarding "insensitivity," I could imagine that the gringos would probably promptly turn up missing and that would be the end of it.

That's the difference between us and them though; you invade OUR country and prove that you're a lot more trouble than you're worth, and in response we fall over each other in our attempts to conform to your needs.

Learn to say, in Spanish, "I don't work here. I just killed the manager because he asked me a stupid question. I was just cutting up the body to dump it when you assholes interrupted me. Do you have any money? I need to buy more bullets."

I bet they will run out of there screaming.

You work in the tourism industry and being in Florida or in the US for that matter, Spanish is a useful language to learn when catering to tourists from overseas. It is the same for non English speaking countries that require its staff to have some knowledge of English to converse with clients.

I'm not saying that it should give them the justification to be assholes if you don't speak Spanish but with a little patience, trial and error you will should learn enough to get them a booking with your hotel. Remember, these people are the ones why you have a job.

It's your job as a customer service associate to cater to your clientele. Some where down the line you should have learned basic numbers, greetings, and other useful phrases. The fact that you have not tells me that you're dumb enough to continue trying the same thing repeatedly no matter how many times you fail.

Bullshit. They aren't foreign tourists. They're living in the USA and refusing to speak the language of their country. I'm just real sorry this person has to put up with these low-life fuckers.

Really? English is what is taught in 99.9% of all SCHOOLS (I am sure there are a few liberal-run schools out there that cater only to Espanol)!!!

There is no requirement to learn a second language before you graduate from HS, so, what makes you think it is NOT the national language?

Just because a bunch of fucks immigrate here and refuse to learn the language???

And, for the idiot (gloryholeflasher) who said Espanol is easy to learn....really? Bullshit! There are only about 1,000 different dialects of it, so much so, that one person speaking it doesn't understand the OTHER! No language, outside of your native language is "easy" to learn....you crack me up when you say "even little toddlers are speaking it", which, I assumed you meant Espanol. If that is so, are you serious??? I suppose then toddlers here in the US must be geniuses if they can speak English??? Come on. Whatever language is primarily spoken in a house, that is the one ANY toddler is going to learn. You could be raised strictly by dogs, guess what? You speak DOG!!!

I am not saying people who come here should speak PERFECT English, but, they should make an effort to learn SOME words....enough to get around, ask directions, order off a menu.

Last comment on this before I get off my soap box....so, how many countries do you suppose an English-only speaking person would be welcome in and would find people bending over backwards to learn or write signs, etc in English for them??? I'd say, about none. Maybe a few scandinavian countries, like Denmark, but, they also adopted English as their second national language DECADES ago. They require it to be learned in schools before kids can graduate.

No, Neuria is right but you are right too it should be ENGLISH. However stupid America trying to say "We have to be accepting of all languages" wont accept one as the main language of America. Since America is fucking STUPID! So no currently we have no official language.

I agree with you on a lot, actually. It is hard to become fluent in another language.

But really all you should need to learn is a few catch phrases. Hello, I'm so and so; your room is on x floor; front desk phone number is x.

Find another job where you don't have to deal with customers. That is what I did.

Español is an easy language to learn. In Mexico even little toddlers are speaking it. If a person knows a second language and uses it regularly he/she can forestall the onset of Alzheimer's by 7 years. In the American southwest it was THEIR land and THEIR language first. The European Americans are the arrogant intruders. We expect everyone to use our language. I think we should all try to show a little more respect to others, whomever they are! I find that when we try to speak the other persons language it builds a cultural bridge where both sides can walk across, meet in the middle and come to an understanding.

Too many Mexicans are gross and lazy. All countries have been invaded at one time or another. It's a fact of life that the fittest wins. So stick your righteous bullshit up your ass and stop excusing your fellow roaches' laziness. You people disgust me. You infest the country and have your nasty anchor babies, then are too lazy to learn the language and fly your Mexican flags. If you are so patriotic, why don't you go the hell back?

You are going to make a terrible a police officer. You have no patience with others, even when it's your job. You are a racist, as well.
Quit the school and get a job where you don't have to work with any other humans.
