Extremely irritated by non-punctuality

I end friendships very quickly when the person is late, especially when they say "relax" or something to that effect. Is it normal that I get so angry?

I have a friend who's prone to always be late, mostly due to his parents but that's another story; I actually think he'd be more punctual if it weren't for his parents and it's not that they made him to not be punctual per se.

Anyway, my point is that I'm used to people not being punctual and I personally don't mind.

And this is saying something because I grew up in a family where punctuality is highly regarded and expected. I always feel very uncomfortable when I'm late to anything I'm expected to be on time.

I'm with you on this one. Being where and when you say you will be is the equivalent to keeping your word. I have no time or energy to waste on someone who won't keep their word.

Like DolphinAngel explained, things do get in the way, especially family issues.

Many years ago, I've been late a lot due to my parents fighting and not giving me a ride, so I had to take the bus. It's weird.. It was always some of my female friends that got super pissed at me, and end the friendship or would yell at me for being late regardless of the reason. I found them very selfish and extremely stressful to keep up with, the idea of always getting nagged at for something trivial drove me to not care anymore. Once the friendship was over, I was relieved.

Anyway, just keep an open-mind about it. If someone is prone to being late, ask them to send you a courtesy text or call to let you know they're going to be late or not coming, so you don't waste your whole day away just waiting.

Depends on how late they are. If it's once and 15 min, it's ok. If they always are, for example, 30 min late, I won't stay long with them.
