Fake sound problem?

Okay, so.. I was playing a video game. I was done playing after an hour or two, and then I went to make cigarettes. While I was rolling them, I heard my video game playing and thought I had just left it on idle and it was playing a demo playthrough since no one was using it. I went up to it to turn it off because my 360 has a habit of destroying my discs when they're left to idle, and both the 360 and the TV were already off. The sound stopped, and so I just went to go back to rolling my cigarettes. Once I turned around, the sound started again. It wasn't just in my head, either. It came directly from the TV's speakers. It also happens with regular cable television after I turn the TV off, even though it's a different TV. Is it normal?

I don't even have surround sound, it's a very small TV with only its own speakers. And it wouldn't explain why I hear my Xbox playing if the Xbox is definitely off. I was really just hoping it could be due to stress or fatigue or something and not a serious issue.

No, I'm quite literally referring to hearing the TV make sounds as if both it and the 360 are on, or it and the DVD player are on, while neither are actually on. It sounds like someone's actually playing the video game or watching the movie.

Are you referring to the high frequency 15,750hz tone emitted by the scanlines of a CRT television?
