Family has inappropriate responses to school shootings?

I just got home from a lockdown at school, i texted my dad we were safe and he responded with these emojis: 😱😵

Not "are you ok" or "are the police there" ???

We're all ok and the gunman just got arrested, I'll try to update this as fast as I can. Nobody got shot or hurt thank god I'm trying to just calm down but now I'm angry at why my dad would respond this way. This isnt the first time either, this same school almost got shot up last year and he got mad at me for being upset and worried my friends were hurt or dead. Please help me... my fiance does this too in a similar way and internet forums like this is all I have left to turn to for advice

    The worst is how the children are being indoctrinated. Why aren't we telling our children they should fear lightning? It is way more likely to kill them...

        Someone shove a ball gag in this mans mouth! Schools are one of the safest places anywhere and your kid is a zillion times more likely to die on the car ride to the school than because of some school shooter. Then we have obesity killing millions and millions of Americans. How about do something about that!?!?!

          Are you so paranoid that you think just talking about gun violence is liberal code for banning guns? At no point did OP say that guns should be banned. They're just talking about a family member's callous response to a life-threatening situation that just happened to involve guns. That's not the focus of the post.

            Not what I would call life threatening. Check a map. About a half mile from the school.
            Speaking for myself I'm tired of people's over-reaction to any incident involving a gun. There is an attempt by some to make the problem seem bigger than it is to fit their agenda.

              No agenda here, mate. Just referring to the context of the post itself. I don't think OP had a map to check before texting their dad. As far as they could tell at the time, the shooter was on campus and there was a legitimate threat. OP didn't tell their dad that there was a shooter half a mile away from the school.

              I want to avoid political arguments on here, I get enough of them everywhere else.

    I don't think you should worry so much about his reaction. I can relate because I'm terrible at reacting in ways that shows I care, but I know I care more than anyone else, I'm just terrible at showing it. Maybe this is the case with your father.

    If I was in your place, I would be pissed. Why not get really upset, tell at them, and say what you said here. Tell your dad "instead of you show I g concern for your kid like normal adults vwould, but no, you reply with these little buckshot fucking funny face emojis. What if you didn't hear from me and you get to the school and find out I was shot and killed. The only one shot and killed. And then in my phone would be these little Bull shit funny faces that You seem to think are cute. Well, i, in case you are concerned am almost to worried or scared to go to school for fear in coming home in a body bag.     Update: the shooting was actually at an apartment complex across the road, but the high school is still on lockdown. Everyones still safe and okay. My schools lockdown ended but the gym is still locked. I'm writing this to calm my nerves and as a desperate attempt to get any sort of normal human response. I'm sorry

    I wish I can post the screenshots I took of the emergency text alerts my school sends out. Its literally 10 texts in a row of "dont come here we are on a lockdown" but I cant get any normal response from my family or SO and I dont know what to do anymore

          I'm gonna have to change it I guess. I couldnt come up with a name so I told myself I would use the next two words I heard. I was on the pirch and school was letting out and the first word I heard from a group of teens walking by was bleeding, and the next group said something about diarrhea, so I went with it.
