Fear of going down stairs?

Ever since 6th or 7th grade, I noticed that Ive had much difficulty going down stairs. The average flight of stairs to me is hell. Every time I go down, I grip the railing for dear life and always look straight down. Usually the stairs blend into one flat mess and I cant really tell where the next step is so I just put my foot down and end up almost tripping because my body didn't calculate right. I also noticed that when I walk down stairs, my left foot is always turned to the side so I can fit it on the whole step.

I know that stairs are never magically going to go away and have learned to "just deal with it" but people have been pointing it out to me more than usual. IIN?

So do I, although I'm having cataract surgery which means I'll only need closeup glasses after 40 years of wearing glasses all day. It was just a thought because for me, one of the signs that I need new glasses is when I have trouble walking down stairs. I hope you work out what's causing it,it sounds a bit scary to me

        • Part of the problem (as idiotic as it makes me sound) is that I have hair falling in my face and because I need to grip the railing with one hand and hold stuff in the other, that leaves hair in my face causing blocked vision. I have tested pulling my hair back and it does not really solve the problem so I made an eye appointment to figure out whats going on.

Well if you've ever fallen down the stairs you know it really sucks, so it's not entirely weird. Maybe being extra cautious is not a bad thing.

I believe you have a sort of vertigo. Look it up and see if there are recommended ways to minimize it's power over you, as it can not be cured!
