Fight at gym

Tell me if I was out of line here but I was using the deadlift machine I walked off and starting putting weight on the squat rack and was about to go there. All of a sudden this dude comes up to my deadlift machine and I heard him say "WTF IS THIS SHIT???" and pointed to the ground. He didnt look and ask me just shouted it out loud. Someone then said "its sweat" and he said "man I swear to god" and left to go get wipes and came back and starts mopping the floor right there of my sweat.

He then just walks away and doesnt even use the machine. I walked up and said "why are you complaining about the sweat and not even use the machine?" He said with covid and everything im sweating all over (I do sweat alot) and told me to clean up my sweat from the ground. I told him theres no way I'm mopping the floor of it I always wipe the machine but you're gonna have to get over the floor. Your shoes touch the floor not your body. Not crawling around with paper towels mopping everywhere I walk.

I dont think I'm in the wrong here I normally do wear a hoodie to absorb the sweat (i forgot it today) but at the end of the day its a gym and people sweat. Very disrespectful to public shame someone for sweating at a gym. It was just like little drops everywhere not even like a puddle.

I've never been in a public gym and so I have no idea of what the proper etiquette is.

Maybe the other guy would consider it unimportant, but the current scientific consensus seems to be that fomites haven't been a significant vector for the virus. It seems it is possible to catch it if you touch a contaminated damp surface and then immediately rub your eye or nose, but the virus is not that robust and it rapidly degrades when it dries out. It's a respiratory disease, and it's very clear that the most important means of transmission is airborne droplets exhaled by an infected person.

It seems to me that a much greater risk posed by sweat on a gym floor is the slip-hazard it creates.
