Friend caused extensive water damage to my other friend's house

I am house sitting for Liam (friend #1). I invited Anthony (friend #2) in for a minute while I watered the plants. We were on our way to a movie. Anthony left a faucet on in Liam's paint studio where he wasn't supposed to be in the first place. When we came back the entire first floor of the house was flooded. Liam has a lot of Buddhist antiques, cushions, rugs and paintings all of which got soaked. Anthony said he would go out to buy paper towels but never came back. Is it normal to feel personally responsible for another friend's mistake?

It was your fault for letting a retarded person in.

Is it normal? Hard to say in today's time. Is it ethical? Yeah.

It doesn't have to be either-or. Anthony was absolutely irresponsible, but at the same time you probably shouldn't invite other people over when you're house-sitting, just for future reference.

What matters most right now is trying to fix Liam's stuff as best as possible.
