Friend with autism does some things that are rude but

My friend with high functioning autism does things that are rude and he doesn't understand this. And when I or someone gets upset with him he can't comprehend why.. I don't know how to get through to him because it's like it goes over his head

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

50% of people who seem not to comprehend are actually fucking with people.

There's never a valid excuse to knowingly be mean or rude. It's different if he doesn't realize it, however anybody is capable of learning.

I'm autistic, but I don't do this. I think he might be using his autism as an excuse to be an asshole.

More like OP is doing that. She’s associating being an asshole with autism.

I have a flat mate that is like this. Anything serious flies right over his brain that it actually causes problems.

Depends on what he does. It's impossible to give any advice without knowing since some people find very specific things rude that others may be indifferent towards. If the friendship doesn't work then just move on from it. I dont get why people have such a hard time dropping friendships.

Sever ties with these people. Its like walking on eggshells interacting with them.

    • Yeah it does feel like that because they also have this fixed way of being where if you mess up their routine by calling them they'll say you ruined their day and now they have to eat lunch an hour later lol. It's insanely difficult but they're a friend so I don't want to sever ties

Actually, having to avoid upsetting people with the truth is more like walking on eggshells. Get a thicker skin

        • Huh? That made no sense. Me and literally everyone they know or encounter has issues with them because of how they interact. All their friends, cousins, sister, their brothers, mom, dad, professors, strangers on the street, literally everyone gets upset with them because of how rude they are.

You sound just like them. Maybe the others are right they're just an asshole and we should ditch their ass and leave them alone so they have no friends. Assholes don't deserve any including you. They constantly insult us and everyone around and we try to make them aware and they say they don't understand. It's exhausting being friends with a nutcase.

Girl, I have no desire to be around thin skinned biddies like you and your list of friends to begin with. 🤣

You won’t leave him you’ll continue to post this complaint every other week as you have been doing.

So you're saying that I don't deserve to have friends, because I have autism?

Hang around with fellow autists. They are your friends.

Stop trying and accept them as they are. Understand that they cannot control this. But you can. You need to try and understand that they aren't doing it with malicious intent, they literally cannot help it.
