Friends all over the place or one solid friend group?

I have never been in a solid friend group before; neither in high school or college. I have always had individual friends all over the place which has its ups and downs. Having friends all over the place can be a good thing because you can have a friend for each interest you have but the downside is that those people are often in other friend groups leaving you out. I feel like having a solid friend group can be a good thing because you hang out with each other much more, gain better chemistry within the group, and are invited to do things much more often but can be bad because it limits other social opportunities and takes away from meeting new people. What type of friends do you all have?
