Future architect doubts

I'm a peruvian girl who wants to become an architect. I chose Architecture because I'm passionate about design and buildings. Five months ago I applied to a local university and I was accepted. In the way of achieving this many people told me that in order to become an architect I have to be very good at drawing, but the truth is that I'm not. I'm a hardworker so I didn't care much about that, but now that I am about to start university I met a lot of university fellows that have the best drawing I've ever seen. So please tell me: Is it necesary to have a good drawing If I want to study Architecture? Is it normal that an architect can draw just the basics?
P.D: Spanish is my mother tongue, so If I made some mistakes, sorry.

Lol I'm Peruvian too and going for architecture! Listen, you don't need to be a very good drawer to be a good architect. Here is a website and article where I learned this

    http://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/do-you-want-to-be-an-architect/

This is a great website to guide you!

Bob Borson (the architect) says the following...
I am living proof that you don’t have to draw well to be an architect. Having the ability to draw beautiful pictures doesn’t hurt but let’s pull the curtain back and be honest here for a minute … Architects communicate through their drawings – we aren’t making art. As architect Lou Kahn once famously said, “an artist can make a cart with square wheels, but an architect can’t.”

I believe architects use CAD (Computer aided design) or something like that when they design buildings, so if you choose a career in architecture great drawing skills won't be such a necessity, however I can imagine at university you would be expected to do a lot drawing, but you don't have to worry about you're drawing abilities, as long as what you have created can be interpreted by the examiners then you will be fine!
Just make sure you enjoy drawing too, because you'll find yourself spending alot of time drawing and if you don't enjoy it, it will be hard to complete your work.

  • This is more of a question for your architect buddies than us.

I think the field of architecture requires a lot of mathematical ability right?

Isnt there computer programs that can compensate for this? Pretty fuckin sure there are so dont worry. Ever seen the architecture of the 10th century? Pretty sure your free hand could do better.
