Girls!! is it normal my gynecologist makes me wear plastic booties?

I'm 25 and she is my gynecologist for 6 years already. She is an excellent professional, I can't in any way complain abouth that.

During appointments in previous years, like at most gynecologists I suppose, I would have to quit all my clothes and wear a paper gown - that was it... Until last year.

On the day of my check-up appointment, I went to the clinic, I waited in the waiting room... then I was called and stepped into her office. Even before I sat down to have a talk, answer/ask a few questions as usual, she handed me some kind of plastic sterile clothing kit and told me to go behind the curtain, to undress and put it on. It was new to me, I had never seen it before, it was all made of plastic. It basically consisted of: a plastic cap (that looked just like a shower cap), a white plastic robe and a pair of thin, tiny, blue coloured plastic booties.
After handing me the kit, she informed me that I had to wear the plastic booties on my bare feet. She looked down at my sneakers and she asked me if I was wearing socks, I said yes and told her I was wearing ankle socks, then she even gave me this small plastic baggie and told me to put my socks in the baggie whenever I had taken them off and after putting on the plastic booties.

At that point, I felt like I was getting prepped for surgery or something...

I undressed, tucked my hair into the plastic cap, took off my bra and panties, on went the robe and at last took off my sneakers, my socks and covered my feet with the blue plastic booties. I must admit it was a very peculiar feeling to have my bare feet wrapped in plastic, the booties looked really strange too on my feet, like plastic ankle socks, as they were super tight from heels to toes and barely fit my size 10,5 feet. Took quite some effort to wrap my large feet in such tiny pieces of plastic.

I walked out from behind the curtain and only then sat down with my gynecologist, it was an odd feeling to sit there all nude and covered in plastic from head to toe.
Once the exam started and while laying in the gynecology chair, I kind of started to guess the utility of me having my foot soles wrapped in plastic, as I noticed how close a gynecologist's face actually is to a girl's feet during an exam. I guess maybe the booties are to prevent any foot odours, but the cap and the robe I have really no idea what those are for.

At the end, I wore the outfit for almost an hour and it was quite uncomfortable because of it being plastic. It makes you sweat, I noticed it specially with my feet, inside the plastic booties for so long, they were all wet when I finally took them off.

Well, sorry for being so specific and detailed, I just shared my story.

With all this said, my questions to you are:

What about you? Have you ever experienced the same at your gynecologist?
Is it maybe usual nowadays?
Have you ever worn these plastic booties on your bare feet? Have you ever seen them?
How would you feel about it?
What is all this strict hygiene for?

Thanks in advance for all the replies (;

Never happened to me before but I could see its purpose if there is concern over fungal infections, lice or any other sort of thing like that going around. It's possible the office got traced back to a spread of something. Could be an effort to reduce liability. Could be for insurance purposes. Could be public health concern. Could be new regulation.

Definitely normal, my daughter went through the same thing & had to get covered in plastic for her exam, it's just to stop bacteria & infections etc spreading as a precaution

    Umm...
That is a little strange, I must admit. Maybe you could ask your gynecologist the reason behind it and see if she sounds genine in their answer. If it sounds suspicious or if they get defensive about the answer, I might just get a different gynecologist. In case it's like a fetish or something. o_O
