Going to university in ur 20's?

So, hey. I'm from Czech Republic and I'm planning on studying in California. I'm 18 and will finish high school when I'll be almost 20(it's longer here). I don't think I'm immature now, but I don't know what I'll be like in 2 years. Do people actually start college/uni at 20 or later in the us? Or would I feel like I'm the old one there? Lol. Sorry if it's an odd question, I'm already worrying about everything.

Plenty of students start even later than 20. You'll fit right in.

I was at university with a range of ages. The students who were a year or two older that the rest of us seemed to have a distinct advantage of 'worldliness' for want of a better word.

Please try not to worry: I am certain you will be just fine.

I started college at 18 but I didn't know what I wanted to do then so it was kind of a waste, my parents just wanted me to go. I mean it's good to get your gen ed. but I ended up quitting for a couple yrs now i'm 22 and just enrolled again for an actual major. & There were old people (no offense but I mean like 40s and 50s) in my introductory math classes, and they asked the most questions. as well as like 12 year old asian kids... who asked the least questions and got the highest scores :? anyway yeah it's cool. besides, its not like everyone will be asking your age, and most 20 yr olds dont look/act much different from 18 yr olds.:)

I was under the impression that people of all ages went to college. However, I think in my country that the biggest age group seems to be early 20's.

I don't think people are going to care what age you are in university tbh. It's completly different than high school. The people are usually more mature and know age is irrelevant.

Where i live, there are people of all ages attending university. My sister has a 40+ year old woman in her class atm so im pretty sure no one's going to care about you being 20 or not.

All the people I knew took a year or two to sign up after graduation. Apparently it was testing they had to do and than they had to wait to get the classes they needed and graduated 18,17 so yeah. I think its normal.

So normal. I doubt anyone will even notice.

I went back to college years after quitting and working full time for a while, plus some other things life threw at me. When I re-enrolled I was afraid the younger people would look down on me, and I even voiced this once, and was astonished by the reaction - they said they looked up to me, admired me so much, thought I was a great role model and an awesome person, and knew people much older who went. (Btw, I wasn't even the oldest person in my class.) One girl even talked about her mom having gone back to college and teared up talking about how proud she was to be there at her mom's college graduation, and how it was the proudest she'd ever been of her mom. I'm getting sniffly thinking about it now!

That was four years ago, and I'm now a senior in college, enjoying it and appreciating it to the fullest, learning more than ever, feeling more balanced and hopeful than ever, and on track to go to graduate school. And there are people of all ages in my classes, including several people in their 60's and up, many parents, and a number of grandparents. It makes me feel young to be at school, not because there are young people around, but because I feel when I am learning and enriching myself, I feel more youthful, happy, energetic and alive.

So don't worry. It's quite normal here. Enjoy.

I started college when I was 19 and I'm now going to a traditional school that most of us use to go. I love taking my course online and I'm really happy with it. I'm taking my poultry course and I enjoyed it. You should try it too by clicking the link below.
