Got warrant for non moving violation

I haven't had my car or money for the past week, and I missed court and my due date to make a payment for an expired tags violation. I'm a little worried because they just issued a warrant for it. My sister got arrested not too long ago due to a warrant that she had, but her charges were over missing court over a possession of marijuana charge, and she needed over $1000 to be bonded out. Because my situation is over a non moving traffic violation and hers was over drug possession, I'd think that my bond would be way less. On the other hand, I don't think it may matter because a warrant is a warrant whether it's expired tags or possession of weed, and the punishment will be the same. Also, would I have to be pulled over to get arrested or will the police show up at my door to arrest me? I've never been arrested before and I'm really nervous, I don't have $1000 for bail, I don't even have $100, I got no car (it broke down since my tags violation) and I have about $30 to my name right now and that's it. I don't know what to do, any advice?

    • Where you from? If you're saying mate, it sounds like you're either from UK or Australia. Laws are probably different there from America. Not even every state in America is the same. I'm in Kansas.

      • I'm from the UK. I don't know much about American laws to be honest. Like you say, it may be different out there. Plus I'm only 18 and I don't own a car so I know even less. But, in terms of the warrant and everything, I'd say you should try and approach the police or the person dealing with your court case and just be honest and explain your situation. Otherwise, they'll just be harder on you and have less sympathy.

Sorry for the original lack of advice

        • It's alright. It is true that the law goes easier on you if you turn yourself in vs. waiting until someone catches you. And since this is over a non moving traffic violation, I seriously doubt that I'll be looking at jail time if I go to the police station and explain why I missed court. Even drug charges sometimes let you go on an amnesty program if you voluntarily go to the police station on your own regarding the matter. My sister told me that she could've had that over her missed court drug charge, but she went to jail because she waited until the police ran her name while being pulled over while driving.

    • I don't want to be hearing that, but you're just being real, I get that. How bout a little advice on what I should do instead of only saying I'm in deep shit and leaving it at that. I'd like some ideas on what I should do next.

This sort of crap to get people into trouble more and more out of their control seemed American. I have no clue what to do besides try and work more, but best of luck to you.

Worst case scenario is if you had to interact with the cops and they notice you have a warrant.

If you do turn yourself in, just make sure someone knows about it first and there is some kind of plan. That way even if you do go to jail until you can talk to the judge, you will have went to jail on your own terms, along with someone knowing what is going on instead of something like getting pulled over or getting in a wreck when it will NOT be convenient to have to get locked up.

You might not really need to go to the police station. Maybe go to the local city/county govt building and explain the situation and ask what options you have. and once again, let someone know just in case they do arrest you.

The reason they issue warrants is because a judge needs to talk to you. You may not get arrested but prepare for the worst ahead of time.

    • I thought that this site would have people who have already been in the same situation and they'd know what to do.
