Graduation gift protocol

Hey so my friend is graduating from mechanic school in like a week and she invited me to go, however I've never been to a graduation, are giving gifts to the graduate actually a thing? What kind of gifts? One year for her birthday I gave her a bunch of gum wich she really liked so I'm thinking of just doing that again as I don't have alot of extra money at the moment, anyways what do you guys think? I don't know what I'm doing so um yea please help

    Yes, it’s a milestone worthy of a gift. Get her a gift card to Sears or Home Depot for what you can afford. Mechanics need tools.
    Tape some gum to the card in a nod to the bday gift.

    get her a tool , all mechanics like tools. especially battery tools . what will she be doing for a living ?
