Hate the loncoln hate

I get sick of hearing these people try to tear down our founding fathers and especially Abraham Lincoln. The new narrative is that Lincoln was actually a bad guy. He didnt care about slavery. He just wanted the union to stay together because he was racist.

If Lincoln was ONLY concerned about the union staying together why would he in the Douglas debates attack the institution of slavery so much, or go on record saying he would stop the spread of slavery? And talk so much about it so that every southern state attempted to rig the election by not having him on the ballot. And then succeeded before he was even inaugurated. Not only that you cant attack his character on the matter because he NEVER owned slaves.

Abraham Lincoln was a real one and does not deserve to go down in history as an asshole.

Fuck anyone tearing down history. If a statue is agreed by all to be removed (by vote not mob) it should be placed in a museum to still be remembered.

History needs to be remembered or be doomed to be repeated. The people who want to erase history tend to be the same who want to repeat it.

Also another note about history is that Abraham Lincoln did the emancipation proclamation as to shift the moral high ground to the union as it would be unfashionable for european countries to support a slave state over a free man state. Which would be the case if they supported the south after the proclamation. Just so happened the logical choice for being anti slavery was also the greater moral good for everyone.

As for the slave owning founding fathers and other figures people have to remember that slavery was a pretty normal thing for those in the upper classes for most of human history. It's only a fairly recent concept that people have rights bestowed upon them for being human. Still tearing down statues just because they were slave owners neglect the greater context to why there was a statue put up in the first place.

Slavery is bad. As a public service reminder for y'all there are more slaves now in modern times then there were in colonial and civil war times. States such as china use slaves to keep their prices so low. And I'm not talking about sweatshops, they use that too. They use slaves of minority groups and political dissidents to fill their factories.

    • All three of these quotes were before the emancipation proclamation. I dont believe the only reason for the proclamation was to get support for the war.

"You think slavery is right and ought to be extended; while we think it is wrong and ought to be restricted. That I suppose is the rub. It certainly is the only substantial difference between us."

"I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free."

"I have always hated slavery, I think as much as any Abolitionist" (this one before even running for president)

Like I said there's a reason the south succeeded before he was even in office. They believed he was coming for their slaves.

I’m my town, the statue fell on one of the dudes head that was pulling it down. 🤷🏾‍♀️ So yeah, I’ll just mind my own.

Good if that guy was pulling down a statue on his own head.

Put it to a vote if you want a statue taken down. Jesus people it isnt an authoritarian regime that's in charge. Just a simple poll and vote.

Taking out the ropes to pull down a statue in a mob is the wrong way to solve a perceived injustice.

Richmond eh? Got no connection to the place but I still hate when angry people resort to vandalism to get their way. The guy is somewhat fine (not dead) anyway.
