Hate the thought of myself or other people disrespecting ancient cultures

I found it difficult to think of a title that made much sense šŸ˜‚
So hereā€™s my predicament
I just feel like people are so disrespectful to Ancient resting places and places of worship. i.e the pyramids at Giza and the placement of Abu Haggag mosque. I feel like showing the mummies of pharaohs is disrespecting the dead in a way.

I get that this is a matter of opinion but I would say that the archaeological, historical and economic value is greater than the sentiments of leaving thousands of year old mummies to RIP.

Its not the studying that I find disrespectful. Itā€™s the gawking at the dead that is pretty Shitty

  • I'm split on that one. I can see your point definitely but it also helps us to learn about ancient civilizations. As far as the 'mummy unwrapping parties' that were part of the rich in Victorian times? Well, those were disrespectful and despicable.

Incinerate the dead, use the ash as fertilizer, and move on.
Cemetaries etc take up way to much space, for what?
They are dead. They are ash, dust, dirt.
    Get it?
When you visit grandmothers tombstone and leave flowers, talk to it etc.
You are wasting time and money.
    Help the living.
    Once you're dead, it's over.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. There must be a reason why you feel the need to tell me how I should view death though. I donā€™t believe once your dead, your dead. I believe there is an afterlife.

Ps. Human ashes damage plants and trees so I dunno what your planning to grow on your human fertilised field.

        Vin,
Are you unaware that ground up left overs from german ovens were sold to farmers for fertilizer.
        If it didn't work.
        They wouldn't have used it.
Yes, the spirit may live on.
But the empty shell is nothing.
So why waste attention on it?

Ashes don't make good fertilizer. Which is why you should just grind up the corpses instead and compost them, it's much better for the trees.

I mean, it doesnā€™t make you objectively right but having those values is normal. I personally donā€™t want to visit someoneā€™s burial. Leave them alone, sure, I get it. But thatā€™s important history so they are glorified.

Itā€™s normal, Iā€™m the same too.
It really knows me how museums have dead people on display. Itā€™s disrespectful, but itā€™s a product of colonialist gaze on non western societies. I bet no one would like it if their grandparentā€™s grave were on display in a museum.

Disagree, I think it's a ridiculous, sentimental attachment that makes no sense and hinders progress.

The "sanctity of the dead" bullshit interfered with medical research for hundreds of years by preventing people from dissecting corpses. So many people died unnecessary because of that. So much potential was lost.

    Ideas like yours disgust me.

So you agree with the Victorianā€™s using mummies of ancient kings and queens as an additive to paints for painting ?

No where Iā€™m my post does it say I disagree with bodies being donated to medical schools, being ā€œdissected, studied or simply just appreciated. I feel that they open a door to more knowledge than we have at the moment but itā€™s about the general publicā€™s respect With this having been clarified. Please explain your point

People are disrespectful in general. When I went to Israel people were plain awful and have turned every religious site into a tourist attraction. And these are modern cultures sitting on top of ancient ones. It will become harder to avoid as recorded history gets longer and more people live on the planet. Don't be that person.

Thatā€™s the reason I mentioned the Abu haggag mosque. They literally built the mosque inside Luxor temple using the bricks that where already there. I donā€™t imagine itā€™s the best use of an ancient temple. Although I do understand modern Egyptians have more to worry about than thousand year old history and a white man complaining about it.

It makes perfect sense to change a building that was made to worship false gods into a place to worship the real god. (Not that the Islamic god is the real God)

My fathers fathers bloodline gose to Madagascar from my understanding they have some werid festival that involves eating with the dead literally having the bodies there. I respect those who are dead but I have to say that sounds both odd and gross.

I believe the festival is called famadihana and they dance with the bodies and eat with the dead yeah. But my problem with the disrespect of ancient bodies is that the ancient Egyptians believed they would never reach the field of reeds if their bodies where corrupted or disturbed

Yeah I dont dig the fact that the mummies are on display like that. That's not cool at all. I agree with you there. I wish they would keep up w shit better I think it should be a crime that they allowed the roman Coliseum to collapse!

But I did find it funny when Trump was talking about bombing Iran he said "We should blow up all their ancient statues first!" hahahahahahah I was like noooo dont do it TRUMMMPP!!! Soo disrespectful but funny. End all tourism for good ahahh

The ones credited to khufu and khafre, then you gotta look further away at like abu sidhum or the bent pyramid. The gigantic ones are built with way more precision than the smaller ones. my buddys ex's crackhead dad got me into a lot of this alternate egyptology stuff. There's a lot of evidence that the really big pyramids were already there when the egyptians we know about moved into the area. They're built way too precisely to be built by slaves banging rocks together, and the really gigantic ones didn't have mummies in them. The smaller step pyramids were built later as tombs for pharoahs.

There's, "The History of Ancient Egypt" from audible which is good, dude. I understand that on some things the consensus isn't there, but no academic circles really doubt the pyramids as burial monuments, dude. Literally carved in stone within the pyramids is the book of the dead and stuff like that. Also, loads of dead bodies have been found within the pyramids.

I remember reading an ancient source which showed the despair of one Pharaohs that his mother's pyramid got robbed because he thought she wouldn't get into the after life.

Also, the gigantic ones are built with more precision because there was an evolution in terms of building. it starts with mastabas and works its way up to great pyramids, with things like the step pyramid and bent pyramids in-between.

I donā€™t believe they where built by slaves, neither does ā€œmodern Egyptologyā€. There is an excavated village nearby the pyramids that would have housed the workmen and from What they can gather from the records of the time they where very well treated. I donā€™t think Moses existed and freed the Israelites from slavery so thereā€™s a lot of things that people believe yet thereā€™s no proof of if that makes sense

    • "The pyramids of Giza were royal tombs built for three different pharaohs. The northernmost and oldest pyramid of the group was built for Khufu (Greek: Cheops), the second king of the 4th dynasty. Called the Great Pyramid, it is the largest of the three. The middle pyramid was built for Khafre (Greek: Chephren), the fourth of the eight kings of the 4th dynasty. The southernmost and last pyramid to be built was that of Menkaure (Greek: Mykerinus), the fifth king of the 4th dynasty. It is 218 feet (66 metres) high, significantly smaller than the pyramids of Khufu (481.4 feet [147 metres]) and Khafre (471 feet [143 metres])."

Mainstream egyptology is wrong. That's why they have those BS ancient aliens shows to give people dumb ideas about fringe egypt stuff. There's no way the time frame they have for the pyramids makes sense.

The guy who credited that pyramid to Khufu was a scumbag discraced officer who openly said he went to egypt to discover something to make him famous.

There was no mummies found in the pyramids, but there was a sarcophagus the room it is in was stripped of anything of value By GRAVE ROBBERS. Iā€™m curious as to why you think there was never anyone buried there

Yeah I definitely donā€™t want people looking at me after Iā€™m dead. I feel like thatā€™s weird. You have to take an account though other cultures actually find it to be a norm. Back in ancient Rome people would walk around with the dead for about a month of mourning. Iā€™m not exactly sure why but they did they also did this in England. But yes to answer your question I definitely think people disrespect ancient cultures. Also, I donā€™t think they realize that these things canā€™t be replicated so once itā€™s gone itā€™s gone
