I have been TO a prison as part of my Criminal Justice curriculum and I have a shit ton of friends that have been in both jail and prison for various offenses ranging from DUI to Murder, however, I have never been in one or the other.
I have been charged with Larceny and Simple Assault but the charges were dropped because I didn't have a criminal record and I wasn't a complete waste (my grades were decent and I was involved in JROTC).
Needless to say, after spending 8 hours in a courtroom and seeing some really disgusting people as well as hearing some sad shit go down (the one that got me was the sickly 80 year old grandmother who literally begged the judge to let her grandson, who had multiple petty drug, larceny, probation violation and trespassing charges, go just one more time because he was all she had to care for her... if I were him, knowing that I would have felt so ashamed of myself to be jeopardizing my grandmother's only source of care with my own stupidity and selfishness... by the way, she let him go but said his next offense was the last she'd let him get away with), it became apparent that I am not a criminal and I don't need to be acting like one.
I spent a night in jail for speeding & wreckless driving (which I think was tacked on entirely because of the speed).
For the record, never been to jail, never did probation, never amounted to anything in my miserable life, never did drugs and compulsively lie at every opportunity.

Five months in prison for assault with intent.
A week in a psychiatric hospital following a drunken rampage (I was deemed manic and homicidal for 4 days).
Three years probation for theft and resisting arrest.
Two "keep the peace" orders.
Banned from ownership of firearms for four years.
Kind of, I've spent a few nights inside my local cells. Honestly I think I would enjoy prison, no expectations of me would be a big sigh of release, I could just exist and be happy, and finish my book.
Twice. First time was trespassing, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and resisting arrest; I stayed there for about 18 hours. Second time was for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and I spent approximately 16 hours. I have been placed on probation for one year and drug court for one year.
To or in jail? I have been to a jail to bail someone out before... I've never actually been thrown IN jail though.
No, but I got a disorderly conduct for defending myself against crazy roomates. :P And I took a short ride in a car once while I was tripping on shrooms (idiot friend drove away and we got to chase him down) but no evidence = no conviction, haha.
No but I've been arrested twice and in a holding cell. And once they hospitalized me for evaluation before letting me go. That was a long time ago.
