Have you ever called someone the n-word?

Sometimes I'll say it as a curse word but only when no one's around like when I'm in traffic with the windows up. I've never called a person the n-word though, either to their face or behind their back

No, I would never do that! 10

I've called every race every type of slur, so yes.

"In effect, black people have told white people: "Here is a word you may not use. We can use it if we like, but you better not use it." And how have whites responded? They've said: "Yes sir, we will not use this word" and now whites are the ones who are very careful about what they say. They can't risk offending blacks. They can't use a two syllable word for fear of losing their jobs, despite the fact that blacks can use words like "cracker" and "honkey" with impunity. What does that say really about the racial power relationship in the United States?" - Jared Taylor.

    • I mean, I don't plan to go around calling people n****rs, and the phrasing of that quote makes it sound like black people INVENTED the n-word. They just hijacked a racial slur invented by white people to take away the abusive power behind it

"the phrasing of that quote makes it sound like black people INVENTED the n-word."

Nah, not really, that's just your interpretation.

"They just hijacked a racial slur invented by white people to take away the abusive power behind it"

        True. Yet my point stands.

        • I guess I just don't really get the appeal of saying it. It's an ugly-sounding word that's been used in an abusive and dehumanizing way for hundreds of years, I don't get this vigilant need to lay claim to a word with so much baggage attached to it

I say nigga sometimes. Tbh it's normally white liberals who get really offended by it and not so much black people. I've said it to black people (not meant in a mean way, just rapping or saying my homey sort of thing) and they didn't get pissed in the slightest.

I don’t talk much, and when I do it doesn’t really come up in the conversation.

I admit, although I don't say it out loud I have a thing where I may say it in my head. I'm not black so I feel guilty for even having that thought in my head.

I said it before I realized it was wrong but I never actually called someone the n word. I don't understand why people think it's a brag that you call people the n word, though. They think they're "fighting the system" by calling someone a word, I guess. Racists sure do have a strange world view.

    • When I was growing up one of my favorite games to play as a kid was Smear the Queer. Basically we'd toss a football in the air and the goal was for whoever caught the ball to avoid getting tackled by everyone else. Back then I had no idea that "queer" was even a word, let alone a slur

I've never heard of that before, what a weird name. I'm sure there's some weird person out there who thought making up a name like that would teach kids to hate LGBTQ+ people. I don't think I'll ever understand why people try to sneak their hate into things meant for children.

        • Knowing my hometown, I think it's more likely that a kid who didn't know what the word means got in trouble for saying it and started "sneaking" it into names to be edgy. Whenever we learned a new bad word we'd always overuse it without any idea what it meant. I remember when "chode" was making the rounds

I’ve never said it out of anger. My sisters and I are big movie quoters so even as a kid we’d answer the phone “sup niqqa”.

But when I’m talking to my bf we say niqqa just like black people do. Lol

If I’m angry at someone and they’re black I’ll say “fucking black people”. But I do the same to all colors.

Just had a long conversation with my son about this word being that he’s the only white kid in his school. It turned into history and geography. Lol

To say it and to call someone it is two different things and it really depends on the context and how much these people are acquainted. And one does not need to be a genius to know when it's being used as a derogatory word.

And we don't actually have a translation for this word in my language. And we're a very mixed country but most of us (if not all) have Africans descents.

Not a word that's ever been used a lot around me or I've ever been comfortable with. There's too many black people in my family.

    • If you gave a white friend permission to use it and they declined, what would your reaction be? A friend of mine said I can call them nigga whenever I feel like, but I don't because I just don't really like how the word sounds, let alone the history around its use

I never call anyone that word to them, I say it sometimes when I'm alone cause it makes me feel better, and it's a funny word. So what if I was born a certain skin colour?
