Have you ever quit your job for a lower paying job?

Coming January, my job is going to require me to work 12 hours a day Monday-Saturday and occasional Sundays. Which is 72-84 hours a week. My mom keeps telling me not to quit because I make so much and I really want to make her proud but I will not be taking that advice. I would rather have some time to myself and get by with making less. Have you ever quit for a lower paying job and do you regret it?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I’ve done it, I make less now but I don’t hate my current job. I did miss the money for years but am doing ok at the moment.

It depends how much less your pay is going to be.

Never. In fact, I applied for another job once, and when I found out the offered less, I told him no thanks. And the guy scoffed at me, saying, “You expect us to offer you more money?” And I said of course. Btw, that company soon went out of business.

Quit a job paying about 44k in US dollars, twice what I was going to. However, 1st job was salary and required minimum 50 to 60 hours per week. 18k job was hourly with time and half and double time, for overtime.

Job was more fun and for about the same hours I made as much as before.

I have quit a well-paid job in December 2020 and now I'm an entrepreneur. I can tell you that I am not making good money. But I do not regret my decision. I am so much happier now.

You should ‘work to live’ not ‘live to work’!

I don't know what type of job this is but as a late 30's person I'd say it depends
Does this job has upward movement for you?
Do they have to working more hours because of the pandemic? Can you tell them your going to work less hours unless you get more pay from them?

On the other hand, I've totally quit jobs to not have a job so you do you boo :)
