Have you noticed that nearly all somali people smell very pungently?

I went to school near this area in Minneapolis that is just full of Somali's (I call this area Little Mogadishu). I noticed very quickly that the majority of them smell very strongly of the same scent. It is not an entirely unpleasant smell but is far from a pleasant smell. Why do they all smell like this???

They stink! 1069
The smell is there, but subtle. 155
No smell. 171
I have not encountered enough Somali's to form an opinion. 164
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you're just being racist, but I like a nicer, pungent odor in bed.

I don't think he's racist when they smell like a septic tank. Maybe it's the food they eat. Stand by one when there at the urnal and you will find out quickly what he means.I work with them . The consensus is mutual with other coworkers.
I would like to know why myself

      How am I being racist?

I just fucking HATE all this political correctness nowadays. Am I racist because I asked this question? Did I say they smell like shit? No, I did not. Am I being racist by calling an area of Mpls "Little Mogadishu?" If you think so, what is the difference between that and Little Italy, Chinatown...

You're beyond racist. Generalizing like this makes you a racist. Somali people don't smell, maybe you should remove your head out of your ass and then tell me what you smell.

Dude, I have worked through staffing agencies for years and I work next to them, and it is a fact that some people give off stronger body odor than others, that is scientific, not ethnic, just like people who take garlic give off a pungent smell when they eat a lot of it or take garlic supplements, or people who give off odors due to the medical problems caused by the medication they take, that sweats out their pours

The poster is not racist or unfair. I being a muslim like most somalis, and a citizen of an undeveloped Muslim country second that most somalis smell distinctly and that ordor is unique in its own. I am not sure but I think that it has to do with their culture. For instance, among muslims it is considered good to wear perfume to smell pleasant. Many muslims around the world wear ITR or PERFUMES of different kinds. I think that most Somalis wear a distinct perfume.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta and almost every somali here smells the same and that smell can be recognized from tens of meters.
For example, I can tell by the smell at the entrance that a somali is sitting in a bus, or in a food court, or in a train, or in any other enclosed area.
That smell is not necessarily bad, but it is so strong that it is clearly noticeable and hence unpleasant.

Well, the whole West Bank of Minneapolis smells like that. And way out here in the burbs certain corners of certain hallways smell like that. Look, if you haven’t smelled it than you don’t know. It’s pretty nasty, the smell, ok? Not the human being. This is not about hating humans it’s about hating a smell. I’ve met Somalians who do not smell this way and they are very assimilated. So that should tell you something. The general theory is that the women are sweating in their robes. That, plus the cooking and having many people living in a small quarters. Such as what we call “the ghetto in the sky” on the West Bank.

As with all things, no one can smell their own you-know-what when they live in it.

I do find the smell incredibly offensive, as do I find the lack of willingness to assimilate at all with some of the Minnesota Somalian population.

What’s worse though is the Minnesota Somalian child care fraud. You think the whites in power don’t know? They know. It’s all about buying votes. Thanks Obama.

That’s the smell of Robe heavy Democrat tools.

All of you that say it's not a big deal, or stupid idiots who say 'you smell weird to them too,' should live next to them for a few months. THEN we'll see how big of a deal it is. THEY STINK, I DO NOT. I never, in the 25 years I've lived here, have had the desperate need for any air freshener, plug-ins, etc., until they showed up. Now Ive got a vast array of different types of air fresheners that don't TOUCH this stench! This certain smell I'm talking about is noxious, overpowering, and nauseating. People don't like coming to my apartment anymore because of it. It's not fair. So, until you've lived with them on all sides, sharing thin walls, and have to wear a mask over your nose and mouth to watch TV, read, sleep, etc., so you don't get sick, keep your dumbass idiotic opinions to yourself.

I live in a smaller town in Minnesota. I unfortunately live in low-income housing in a four-plex. I have somolians on all sides. There is the regular stench that they have on their person, which is bad, but there is another unbearable stench which I think comes from them burning something, i.e. a spice. This makes me so sick that I'm now reduced to wearing a painters mask IN MY HOME! I don't think it's fair that I have to live like this. IT IS NAUSEATING. I've tried Febreze plug-ins, wax melts, spray air fresheners, and NOTHING EVEN TOUCHES IT!!! I'm at the end of my rope, and can't afford to move. Any suggestions? I'm DESPERATE!

It’s not though, this is a different smell. I use that oil all the time. This smell from this population in MN is actually body odor From The women wearing robes and poor living conditions Because they are refugees and huge families are packed into apartments out here.
