Have you picked up a hitchhiker?

I have this strange compulsion to pick up hitchhikers but only at night. If it's daylight, fuck 'em. And only if they're on an out of the way road or on the highway walking, never if they're in or around a town or near a vehicle. And only when I'm alone.

Every person I've ever picked up expressed so much gratitude when I dropped them off and they always say that so many people passed by and no one stopped until I came along.

I'm not exactly the type of person who is out to help people in general but I do like to help the underbelly of society for some reason, even if they're up to no good.

I'm the same person who made the poll about wanting to buy booze or drugs for hobos.

is it normal to pick up hitchhikers?

I live a few miles from a large prison, so picking up hitch hikers in my area would be a very poor decision!

You have a good heart but it's a little dangerous.. There are sick ppl and while your trying to do something good they might be psycho.. Just be careful

It's not normal, but I can understand it maybe you just want more people in your life to either give you more attention and thank you for stuff you've done and you just need and you crave for that accomplishment! But it's very dangerous!! Just go out and talk to some friends tell them how you feel and look towards a good and healthy realationship!!(:

    Haven't had the opportunity to.

You don't get hitchhikers where I live, and if you did nobody would pick them up.

Yes. I will pick up cute white males, even if they are a little musky. I have never had a problem because I won't pick up anyone else but Caucasions. On my way back to work from lunch there was a young man with a cardboard sign (of course) asking for money at a left turn lane. He had amazingly beautiful eyes, he could model with those. I fantasized of picking him up, taking him home, paying him and letting me do whatever I wanted :)

In the 80's my car stopped in the middle of nowhere in Washington state. A nice couple picked me up and gave me a ride to a gas station. There were no cell phones back then, so it was a different time. But I don't look shady, so who wouldn't want to help me. They were the first to come along.

No most of the time I have no interest in helping other people and as a side note I would never stand at the side of the road and beg for a lift either.

Yeah, the other day, before leaving our apartment complex to go to church, some guy came and waved us down and asked us for a ride to the trolley station so we gave him a lift. He was in our complex and he lived there too so I wasn't worried. Mormons are not exactly known for punctuality (as I have learned) so we were late yet... on time.

However, in this town, picking up hitch-hikers can be dangerous business. I wouldn't have done it had he been anywhere else.

I was once hitch-hiked a ride, though. It was very cold and I knew the distance was a little bit but I didn't know how far away my destination was and I got picked up by a really cute guy named "Damon" in a Black BMW. I was a little intimidated, to be honest, because I had never done it before but I was so tired that I got desperate (it wasn't the first time I'd walked that far either). I guess he sensed that I was intimidated, he was a very, very sweet guy.
    *sigh*

  • yeah me and my mom picked up a bum and took him home and he had some good ass skunk weed and he rolled a joint and we smoked some of it then he said he needed a ride to his apartments, so we gave him a ride to his home where he said he was meeting his brother for some reason i don't know and don't care but i think that bum left town with his brother because i never see him up by the rail road tracks anymore oh well. i like the hobo's and bums but not the kind that are user-bums that only use you for what ever you have.

It's scary, but I've done it twice out of my compassion because I feel bad and think of myself of when my car broke down and I had to walk miles.. but I probably won't do it ever again just because it is really dangerous.

  • Lolz nope, but i remember the first hitchhiker i ever met.

I was about 10 years old. I was in the back seat of the car, and my mothers bf was driving with my mother on the passenger side. We were driving down a neighbor hood when a man flagged us down. We pulled up next to him, and all i heard was "Man can you give me a ride homie? I got somewhere i need to be on the real nigga. Just a quick ride please bro!"

I was pretty small at that age so i couldn't see the guy. I scooted up to get a better look, and i was shocked. The dude was bleeding from the nose, and his mouth. His face was swollen and both his eyes were black. This man clearly just got fucked up. My moms bf then said "Sorry partna, but i aint got time fo that nigga."The man begged a little more before he finally left.

This was my first experience with a hitchhiker and i will never forget it lolz.

    No.

If you do that where I live, you won't live to tell about it. ...and if you somehow do, you will be minus a vehicle. (which the insurance probably won't pay for either due to your negligence)

That's true in my city as well.

It's easy to be nice and charitable in a safer area, but in an area like the one I live in, you run a good chance of being robbed, killed or an accessory to something awful.

Its very rare to see a hitchhiker around where i live and when you do see one, the cops usually come pretty quick. A friend and I hitchhiked once when we were about 15. It was cold and snowy out and some guy picked us up and took us where we wanted to go. Luckily that's all that happened.

I don't drive but I've been in the role of hitchhiker. Three rather striking girls in a convertible offered me a lift. I must have an honest face or something.

I picked a two college students once because their car broke down. They were really grateful because it was a rather remote area.

I have a few friends who hitch hike a lot. It's how they travel. They seem to really enjoy it and have lots of fun stories.
