Have you tried windows 8? what do you think?

First of all, I like Windows 8. It really isn't as bad as I have heard people say. Once you set up the Desktop the way you like it there is never any reason to use the Metro UI unless you want to. The learning curve is small and most casual users won't have any problems. It just takes some getting used to is all. I mean nobody likes change but the market is changing to favor Tablets and if MS wants to compete, the Windows UI change is necessary.

I have no reason to get Windows 8. The UI looks horrendous and should be kept to running on mobile devices and touch-screen PCs.

I'm happy with Windows 7, Mac OSX (10.8) and Ubuntu.

No need to get Windows 8, since thus far they haven't announced any good changes. Yes, it has "fast reboot", but I rarely even reboot my computer, so it doesn't matter. And currently my W7 boots in about 25 seconds anyway. I can use those 25 seconds to get some coffee.

I have a strange pattern with Microsoft OSs. I like one, hate the next, like one, hate the next.

Hated 95, loved 98, hated 2000, loved XP, detested Vista, grew surprisingly fond of 7, and I really don't like 8. I agree Microsoft have done absolutely the right thing and it's a very clever OS in terms of modularity (perfect for multi-platform, tablets, phones, etc). It's not just good for me.

I'll happily use 8 on my tablet (although I'm a Droid fan) but my workstation will probably end up being 2008 R2.

8 is a good OS and it'll work for most. It doesn't work for me because I'm not an average computer user. If Linux had the market saturation Windows does, I'd be a Linux user.

P.S. I didn't mention ME because it never really found a foothold. I was very fond of it, though.

I hate windows anything. My mac is as fast as the day I bought it 3 years ago. Never had a virus or spyware. No adware, and j can boot camp windows onto it if I need to for some game I wanna play or whatever. But I do all my work and everything I can on OSX. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people are still buying Microsoft software and PCs in general. A Mac can do everything a PC can and so so much more.

I liked it although I'm not so enamored of it that I'm actually going to upgrade my OS to get it unless it's free and I find that highly doubtful.

My all time favourite OS has been Microsoft XP.

Anyway I might consider getting it but I really need to make my hardware is more than sufficient to run the new OS.

Did you know Microsoft is now trying to rename Metro to "modern UI"? I smell Newspeak. It's the one part of the OS everybody hates, so instead of actually listening to their customers and fixing it, they give it a confusingly generic name so it will be harder to talk about.

And.... They renamed it like three more times. LOL. People have started calling it TIFKAM, The Interface Formerly Known As Metro.
