When my partner wakes up, he spends the next 20 minutes making weird noises like an old man. The whole time he does his morning routine.

Its really a big turn off. Im considering wearing ear plugs. Normal for a 30 year old to sound like a wheezing geezer??
I make a lot of grunts and growls and have a pretty gnarly smokers cough in the morning.
Does he work hard? Hard labor leads to a lot of unpleasant noises and maneuvering when you wake up sore as hell.
You may want to be less worried about the sounds being annoying to you and more worried about it being clear he’s probably uncomfortable in some kind of way and the noises are a side effect
As a wheezing geezer myself - I'm in my sixties and have asthma - I am profoundly triggered by your suggestion that I am less than the personification of sexiness.
Seriously, though, I bet he's not even aware of the noises he makes. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if this isn't a new thing, and you're only noticing it now because the bloom has come off the relationship and there are _lots_ of little things he does that bug the shit out of you.
Maybe the poor guy feels that you're ignoring him, and the noises he makes are just a subconscious effort to get you to acknowledge his presence. It's sort of like how the members of a troop of gorillas foraging in the jungle constantly make little grunts and snuffles so the members are all aware of where everyone else is.
