Heavy smoker and not addicted to cigarettes?

I go through phases of heavy smoking--a pack a day--and then will just not smoke for any period of time afterwards just by coincidence (not having cigarettes, lots of family time, etc).

I never have any cravings and sometimes I'll just think "wow I haven't had a cigarette in a over a week."

My husband smokes cigarettes behind my back because I find the packs of cigarettes and I also have caught him smoking on different occasions but according to him he is not addicted. I know he is smoking more now because I find more evidence and I think he smokes a pack a day. Does he sound addicted??

You are an idiot - no offence! Why do you smoke if you can not to and - obviously - know how harmful it is for you?

That's not normal, but it's a good thing. You can give up completely, because smoking is bad for you. Of course, if you're not addicted, and you are in a social enviroment with smoking, feel free to have a ciggie.

I have been smoking heavily for three years, in patterns, somewhat lightly every two days a week but heavily on those nights. I can go up to even a week without one and not feel any withdrawal other than i miss the experience. How is that even possible?

I'm the same way, I go through phases of really heavy bordering on chain smoking and times when I wont smoke for weeks. I also smoke a tobacco pipe and cigars very often. The only reason I smoke is because I genuinely like the taste and smell.

If nicotene has no addictive effect on you, then that is unusual. If you really aren't addicted, than you should stop, since it's very bad for you and there's really no reason to continue.

you might be more addicted than you think though, try to quit and see how well it goes for you, then you'll know for sure.

and if you really are addicted.. all the more reason to quit. lol.

Why do you smoke then? Most people start smoking out of curiosity, and then become additcted as a result. But if you aren't even addicted to them, why continue to smoke and risk your health?
