Help -- friend obsessed w/ girl he's never met

I've a stoner friend, when he talks you can only understand 1 word in 3. i've known him for 1yr since he came to the independent living part of my care facility. He keeps talking about his girlfriend, but he's never met her, she hasn't come to visit him in the 1yr I've known him, he never has any money to go out/do other things. His head is a broken record and his short-term memory is shot to pieces.

He says him & his girlfriend hardly ever talk and she makes him feel really bad. He talks about all these friends who he has coming over, including her, but where we live you can see everyone who visits. She looks quite distinctive but she hasn't visited him, nobody visits him. He never talks about her, there are pix all over his page but he is not in them with her – so I don't know why he wants to get her a visa.

We both find socialising difficult – him due to getting lost/falling over, me due to anxiety. I've been a lot happier since he arrived.

Shouldn't being with someone make you happy?? I've never seen anyone look so miserable. I did some digging and found out she was and is a porn model. I don't know who he chats to but it's not her. He asked staff for advice so he must know something isn't right. Any ideas on how to help him??
