Do you think the police can still contact me or if the case would be open still?

I sent I hate you spam texts to my ex best friend 3 years ago because she slept with my fiance. I sent maybe around a dozen texts. I did it for about a week straight but then I stopped. She reported it to the police and the police contacted me during that time saying that I'm a suspect and that they're looking into obtaining phone records to find out who it is and I already did stop before the police contacted me I believe but I didn't send any again after the police called me but even 3 years later I'm worried what if the case is still open? Will the police come after me? Will my ex best friend press charges? What can happen?

Am I ever safe? What if it's 10, 20 years from now and she wants money. Can she still press charges?

    Yeah dude you're totally gonna get the death sentence for that, it's not like harassment isn't taken seriously at all.

    There's something good about US law called the Statute of Limitations. From what you describe (depending on your state, if you tell me which state you live in, I could be exact), it sounds like a misdemeanor. Those usually have a statute of limitations of 3 years, meaning after 3 years, the police cannot charge you with a crime and then they have the civil statute of limitations which is usually 2-12 years, also depending on which state you live in. Meaning she cannot sue you after a certain number of years.

    If the cops or she ever filed a criminal complaint or charges, you could ask the judge to dismiss the whole case based on the statute of limitations and the judge, barring some very extreme reason, would comply.

      Thanks so much for responding and for all the information. Yes I'm never doing that again. I was just in such an awful depressed state of mind at the time.
