Holding pee cause kidney pain?

Yesterday I had situation where I needed to pee badly but had to hold it in for too long. When I finally go instead of relief I had bladder spasms kept having to pee small amounts frequently.
Today I feel pain in weird place (near my kidney tubes?) kind of like ovary pain but in my sides. Is this normal, I dont have fever or bladder pain now but my sides hurt?
