How come people get mad when you discredit their fear?

Well, I do not know if anyone keeps up with the news, but there is some big virus going around called covid-19. Go ahead and look it up if you have not heard of it yet. Go ahead, I will wait.

So anyways, of the few that have heard of it, they are aware that there are two schools of thought on it. Those who are like, "Yeah, another day in the big city". They continue life as normal.

Then there are some who are freaking out. Overstocking on shit paper, groceries, running around with face masks, staying at home, cleaning their houses for the first time since 2004, the works.

I am one who is continuing to live as normal. I notice though in real life and on here, when we act like covid-19 is just another day in the big city and say it is fake or "no big deal", the worry-warts get seriously offended.

Why then are the worry-warts getting so upset just because not everyone is sharing their mental plight?

On a side note, I love how we can discuss (or argue) about this type of stuff here. Most forums are quick to ban or delete over stuff like this

You don't have to be an hysterical panicky person to be taking precautions and staying at home. I'm not worried in the slightest but I'm staying at home as much as possible and when I do have to go out I'm practicing social distancing and constantly washing my hands when out. It's the sensible way to act, you don't have to be wreckless to be calm about it.

I think people feel a civic duty when it comes to the containment of the virus. Look, we’re not going to defeat it without a vaccine, but we can save lives and look out for our fellow man by minimising it’s impact. There are people well invested in that, so it’s probably your apathy that annoys them.

I work in a shop which is very busy at this time. We are a small shop with narrow aisles and social distancing is nigh impossible. We have a small counter. I wear gloves and a mask. This is because I live with my elderly parents but not just for that reason, I’m coming into close contact with so many people at high frequency, I just think it best to err on the side of caution here, do what little steps I can. Well I had one lady lean over the counter and say “I’m sorry you’re so paranoid” right in my face. It does seem a little disrespectful and short sighted, her taking my appearance at face value like that.

I live next door to my parents who are in their early 80s, and I'm completely fine with taking precautions, and staying in, because people on both sides of my family tend to live well into their 90s, my paternal great-grandmother lived to be 98 years old. I'd much rather have my parents around for as long as possible despite our differences than listen to a bunch of selfish people who don't care about whether they catch, and spread the virus, then consequently cause the deaths of others.

I think that woman who called you paranoid is just another shallow, selfish jackass who can't appreciate how interconnected all the people, animals and life on this planet truly are.

One of the things I've noticed is that the people who aren't taking it seriously either have serious mental issues or they don't have any loved ones who can be impacted from the pandemic. I stay away from those types since they're probably going to spread it and not give a crap. My parents are elderly and so are my boyfriend's parents. I don't want them getting infected because of people like that.

I agree that total panic isn't really justified by what we currently know about the virus, but you're making a straw-man argument when you say that the only alternative to freaking out is complete indifference and carrying on as normal.

I suggest you copy your post, save it as a file on your computer or phone and then create an appointment on your calendar a year from today reminding you to reread what you've written.

Maybe time will prove that you're way smarter than all the experts who are extremely concerned about COVID-19, or maybe you'll learn that you ain't all that bright after all.

My money would be on the latter.

Really, that's true. I put numbers out on this site weeks ago and was seriously mocked and scorned. My numbers are proving way more correct than those who said the world was ending. I'm glad I will be able to pull up historical posts and everyone's reaction to them.

That will be something fun to look forward to a year from now. It's fun when dems try to rewrite the narrative after they have been proven wrong and watch them try to spin it. I've noticed you have walked back your initial assessment in the past few days.

One year from now, the world will have conveniently forgotten what is going on right now. Especially those who think this is the end. But of course by then there will be some other BS that people will think it is the end of the world.

To be fair, I’m quite bored of the subject.

You shouldn't be. It's the most fascinating thing that has happened in a generation. There are many subjects to look at; economic pressure, psychological reactions, media reactions, human rights, medical responses. There is a ton of interesting subjects coming up from this.

It’s definitely made corruption more visible for those who notice. People literally think it’s simply a pandemic and there’s no underlying bullshit. I’m still just trying to raise my kids and get by, just taking different steps to do so. Fortunately, my dude is “essential” and still making money and my ex is essential bc he’s a first responder. But it’s really hard to hear all the fuck shit going on in the government between the two of them...

People notice, but they're getting drowned out by stupid false flag information and propaganda.

There's definitely more to this than people just getting sick. The government doesn't care if 1% of the work force dies, people die all the time. This is an obvious fear campaign. I'm not saying the virus is fake, but the methods of dealing with it (Everyone stay inside and watch the same repeating thing on TV, don't use paper currency, public assembly is now illegal, rat on your neighbors, be shitty people) as a whole are troubling if you look at them outside of being scared cause of the satanic panic that's going on in the media.

what about this "don't use paper currency", are they trying to get rid of that? At some point then would it be basically trash like a hamburger wrapper?

"Paper currency spreads disease" = "We need to have all financial transactions take place digitally where they can be monitored"

It isn't the virus they fear, it is the stupidity of other humans. Panic is contagious but this is far from a big city issue. The longer people refuse to take it seriously the bigger the problem will get. Don't freak out, but don't be cavalier with the lives of others. Assume you have it and take precautions. Studies show that up to 50% of carriers may never show symptoms.

This is kind of a big deal.

Shutting down the world, destroying the economy just for the baby boomers seems insane to me. I mean in another situation if it was save 1 man or many, many would always be chosen.

Also, Why are we still selling food to china, I can't even get enough food from the supermarket for myself and we are still selling food to chine WTF.

How much food do you need mate. There is plenty of food. The supply chain hasn't broken down here, I doubt it has in Victoria either.

You may have to hit up a few different grocery stores, do not forget Aldi and Save-a-lot if they are in your area.
