How do i lose weight?

I can't exercise much at the moment because of an injury so I have to do this with diet alone. In a few months I can exercise properly again but in the meantime how do I lose weight with diet?

I need to lose 10kg to be my goal weight. I eat quite a lot of vegetables but then every few days or so I eat lots of junk food, kinda like a binge. I guess my will power sucks. Any advice?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Eat less food, use more energy.

That's the only way. Anything else is a lie

I am not the OP but wanted to say - What about all those diets that don't call for diet nor exercise? Are they... fibbing?

As a PT, this is 100% spot on. Keep it simple stupid. Wish I could upvote more than once.

Eat lot's and raise your metabolism. Small meals like 5 times a day. Good luck.

Yes frequent meals is a good idea for those struggling with willpower. If your not active I don't know if you'll need 5 tho.

I think it’s just really hard for some people to stay thin I feel really bad my friend is large for her age and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t even eat as much as me yet I’m like a rake and binge on chocolate and kfc :/

The best sure way to lose weight without working out is to fast everyday. It's easier to fast on a keto diet because you dont have the blood sugar spikes. What I did is I didn't eat until after work at 6pm everyday. I lost alot of weight like that and you get use to it.

You feel like that until about a week later when you get over the keto flu. Carbs are like drugs bro. Once you come off them you feel great

The point is, fasting that long will almost certainly lead to weight lost, but a keto diet is not superior! The evidence does not support this and neither does common fucking sense.

I ate low carb for like 4 fucking months. And felt and performed sub par the entire time. Carbs are energy. My guess is that you were eating poor quality carbs and/or too many carbs before and so cutting those out helped you.

Also your lifestyle is one that's easy to get away with low carb on. Try lifting weights 2-3 hours a day for 5 years and getting super strong and jacked and then tell me how good you feel eating low carb and fasting till 6pm. No high performing athlete eats anything close to this diet.

No i agree with you. If you're lifting weights or doing something like boxing you need your carbs. But if you're just trying to lose weight its the easiest way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh hey were closer than I thought to agreeing.

But keto is not the easiest way to lose weight. Calorie matched low fat diets do just as well. Keto worked for you but it does not work for everyone. Trust me man I've helped people diet before. The best approach at getting a calorie deficit depends on the person.

Don’t eat. It might make you miserable but it does have the quickest results. And really after the 2nd or 3rd day of not eating your hunger completely goes away.

    • But then what happens when you start eating again? Don't you just put the weight back on?

Nah, that's a myth based on people with a little information, or those who don't think it's healthy to do so, so will just lie about the facts. Your body will certainly try and put on fat reserves again, but one of the basic laws of physics is that energy can't be created or destroyed. If you don't take in energy for let's say a week but you still expend it then it's impossible to put the weight back on with the less cumulative energy you would have taken in

This works but it is not very healthy and will require more willpower than other ways. I would not suggest this.

If you go to bed hungry every night you will lose weight. I can't guarantee that it's healthy though. Lots of water and tea will distract you.

This might be on the other side of the spectrum, but if you could convince yourself to attempt fasting, give it a shot. There are plenty of resources (non-religious) and even some researches discussing its benefits.

    • I think it would suit me well. I have tried intermittent fasting in the past and found that once I stopped eating I stopped thinking about food. It was easier than I thought. The problem is that it's not socially acceptable to fast. What do I do when my family sits down to eat dinner? Or go to friend's house? Do I tell the truth or pretend to be ill? Say I already ate?

Fasting can work but if its inconvenient like it sounds like it is, and willpower is an issue for you, I would suggest something else.

Count calories and eat one less meal per day than you eat now. Tell me your height, weight and gender and I'll give you a calorie amount to start at. Eat that many for a week and if you don't lose weight, lower it by 200-300 calories and the repeat until you find an amount that provides steady weight loss.

This might be due to our different circumstances, but I would choose to outright say why I wouldn't be able to eat. Explain why you do it without exactly criticising binge eaters. Some might look down upon it, but I am sure most people would respect that.

Also, how about you do intermittent fasting only on some select days of the week? On the days when you expect to have a family gathering or an important event, then do not fast on that day. Finding a middle ground might be easier said than done, but it would be very rewarding.

As I try to brainstorm a bit more, how about you fast by default, but then you have a window of two days a week to break your fast?

Portion control and count calories. Limit yourself to 1000 calories a day and as long as you stay at 1000 calories, no matter what you eat, you will lose weight. But even in a wheelchair, you can exercise.
Or, put both arms in a cast so that you can't bend your elbows. You won't be able to get much food into your mouth that way.
Or get put into a drug induced coma for a month. You will definitely lose weight that way.

1000 might be a little low depending on your metabolic characteristics but in general this is very good advice.

Junk is good for the fat content and veggies clear your colon so this is kinda true.
