My friends in real life just don't like the same things I do. I really wanna talk about the bands, books, tv series I like but I find no one to talk to. How do people make friendships with the same interest as them by Internet, like Instagram friends? How do you find these people and start talking to them? Like, how?
Hey, I know your situation. The way I've made internet friends over instagram, and it's not too hard. Find someone that has similar interests as you, and send them a DM letting them know that you think they're cool and that you'd like to talk more. Maybe ask them about their favorite characters or their favorite band members. If you imagine how you'd respond to someone asking you about the same thing, I think it will most likely be a positive reaction. You can't assume people are going to come up to you, just take up the nerve and approach someone you think is nice. Maybe you can look through hashtags to find people that are tagging things that you like. After talking to someone over instagram DM, then maybe you can move to another way of messaging, like emails or texting. Be careful with giving out personal information, as always, but there are plenty of people out there that would like to talk with someone like you over common interests. Something else important to do is make sure to keep it going. It can take effort to keep up an online friendship, but having a friend (or more than one!) with the same interests, no matter where they are, is a great experience to have.
