How do you feel about facebook buying instagram?

Today, I found out that Facebook had bought Instagram for about 100 billion dollars. I'm upset with this. I had planned to get a account with Instagram, but now I'm worried that the new management might only make it available to people with FB accounts. I feel like they will ruin a good thing. They bought them out to narrow down the competition, but do they know the product well enough not to screw things up?

What's your take on this?

I'm happy they bought it! 3

I have a feeling that a bunch of young activists with more money and spare time than me think that I should care about this but I don't.
I don't spend that much time on Facebook. I don't even know what an instagram is. I'm stuck in the stone age until I get a better paying job, I suppose.

Instagram is a photo app that give you vintage filters for your photos. Instagram for now is free, but knowing Facebook they'll probably put a price on it >_<

OH, is that the effect that a lot of girls use on facebook? Because I've been wondering what the fuck is up with their faces =/

Yeah, they have funky effects on their pictures making them look like little shadow demons.

It depends. Most people use photoshop to make effects. If they think it makes them look attractive, then what a shame.

Oh, ok. You don't need photoshop for that? I wanted to try it but I have never been good with things like that.

I didn't mean it like that. It was just a bit funny, but understandable mistake. :)

Heh, of course they're going to Facebook-ise it. They wouldn't buy it for no reason.

They'll end up ruining it and putting countless restrictions on it. Of course, for now they say that the founders still have control, but Facebook will add their "Ideas" to it. I guess only time will tell if our predictions are true.

This isn't my analysis, by the way, but I got talking about it to someone at work. He thinks that Instagram was a potential Facebook killer, like Facebook itself killed MySpace. If MySpace had have spotted the danger soon enough and bought Facebook, Facebook probably wouldn't exist now.

It sounds like this is what Facebook is doing. Taking control of Instagram so that it can never rival Facebook. My colleague's feeling is that nobody will have heard of Instagram in four years time.

It's a shame. It shows insecurity in their product if they feel so threaten over something that's in a completely different field from them, that they end up buying it out. Next thing, they'll try to buy everything that starts to show more prominence than them and they'll end up ruining it. If your colleague is right, then Instagram would've become a project that had potential but failed miserably in the end.

I do have a Facebook and I still don't know what Instagram is.

Probably another venue for government officials to keep track of you.

I think they stated pretty clearly that they won't be removing the ability to share it on other sites besides Facebook, they plan to keep it separate as it is at the moment.

Grrrr! This made me mad! But I'll try and rewrite it.

You should just get your Instagram account anyways. FB acquiring it is definitely a good thing since now its use will be open to everyone, not only us, Apple products owners. As much as I like to feel special, this is not one of the ways; I hate monopolies and elitisms and I think all things Internet should be free (or minimum cost) and open source; and, I might add, I believe "piracy should be legal", as in the (re)distribution of cultural products without intent of making profit.

Besides Instagram you should try Pinterest if don't already have it. It's adorable! I love mine! :*

Well, I dislike it just as much. But that is not the matter here. Instagram was only available to iProduct users, and now it supposedly won't be. That in itself is a good thing, or am I wrong?

I always thought instagram was just an app....guess i was wrong. Seems like a good thing though, for facebook anyway. Everyone is just looking for a way to expand their business and stay on top, which facebook seems to be doing very well with.
