How do you feel about pit bulls?

I just found out about a reddit page called r/BanPitBulls and it genuinely pisses me off the amount of lies and fear mongering that they use on this reddit page. Even the picture they used on the front page is from an article where it is was agreed by both the victim's mother and the judge of the case that it was the owners fault not the dogs. To make matters worse one of the rules of the sub reddit is that you can't bring up that fact that pit bulls aren't naturally aggressive dogs and it depends on the way you train them.

They are vicious dogs that should be banned 12
They are ok 13
They are good, but only when trained properly 25
They are awesome pets. 26
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Most people who own pitbulls are low-life pieces of shit. Just what I see on a daily basis.

Yeah, but the dogs don't have any control on who their owner is.

I saw something once that said -
In the 70's we blamed the German Shepards
In the 80's we blamed dobermans
In the 90's we blamed the rottweiler
Today we blame the pit bull.

So when are we going to start blaming the humans?

I think they are the same as any dog in terms of any dog can attack a human or another animal. It comes down to how they were raised and trained, and how they are treated.

Saw my first serious dog fight a couple of weeks ago. Between two pitbulls. It was scary, no doubt, but I know the dogs. They are gentle, sweet girls usually. The instigator has been neglected and probably abused in the past. They both came out wounded but ok. No need for stitches (fortunately) and were licking each other's wounds and remorseful almost instantly.

But it doesn't change my opinion. I think they can be raised as good family pets, so long as the owner is knowledgeable, experienced with dogs, and responsible.

pitbulls shouldn't be banned however they should be a restricted breed. they can be dangerous in the wrong hands which is unfortunately extremely common due to their high dog aggression and drive. people are either too lazy to properly control their pitbull and let it go crazy or don't even bother training it at all.

Pit bulls are fine but they need a firm hand and good training. They must be allowed to socialize with other dogs in a safe setting, the same with humans. If these rules are followed they make good pets.

They're just like any dog, train them properly and they most likely won't become dangerous.

How is that racist? I meant that they’re looked down upon, shamed, and stereotyped. Things obviously aren’t fair for them! Thanks for the quarter by the way, dad.

Most dogs are only as good/bad as their owners. Pits have a bad reputation but are actually one of the most agreeable dogs, if trained properly.

I think that there are good pitbulls and bad pitbulls, and just like any other stigmatized breed of dog in the world the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of stupid humans who breed them to be aggressive. Scummy people breed dogs to be aggressive then abuse them to make them more aggressive for the purpose of scumbag dog fighting. These people are evil sub-human garbage!

I have met a lot of very sweet pitbulls! It's not the fault of an entire breed of dogs that there are evil people who do this bullshit. Disgusting people also do it with chickens for the purpose of cockfighting. All the people involved in those activities belong behind bars!

So the entire thing is a ciclejerk of Yesmen who don't allow counter opinions to penetrate their bubble? Normal. Also, pit bulls are good pets. My family used to have a white pit bull named Buddy. He was well behaved and sweet. We didn't have him for long because someone stole him, but he made us happy.

I used to hate pitbulls. After I stopped listening to others and I could see for myself, they are a wonderful, loyal dog, they are such a living animal- unless trained to be vicisious. I have friends with pits that I would take any day if I could or had to for a pet.

Pitbull are amazing pets and working dogs if they are from a good bloodline and with proper training.

Any dog's attitude isn't the result of being "born vicious", it's a result of how they are treated by their owner.

Pitbulls aren't naturally aggressive dogs. They can be vicious if not properly looked after, but they are loyal to owners who treat them with love and affection.

Not my kind of dog, but if trained properly, it's like any other dog. I only hate people that deliberately train their pitbulls, or any other dog to be aggressive and attack.

It's ok to have a vicious dog if you own a junkyard and don't want anyone stealing junk in the night, but in a quiet neighborhood? It's just stupid and is an accident waiting to happen.

I agree with most comments on this site, it's the owners and not the breed of the dog that are at fault. I know pitbulls get bad press because they were trained to fight, however any pitbull I have met are gorgeous and friendly and love people.

In respect to the comment about people owning pitbulls being low pieces of shit, well you must be hanging out with the wrong sort of people, because they would only BE low life shit if they encouraged their dogs to fight.

    Depends on the owner.

Dogs are like human children in a way. If you constantly beat it and yell at it, they grow up unstable, scared, and hostile.

Raisanbran is right. Most pitbulls I meet are always in the worse part of town with poor, emotionally unstable owners with too many kids. I feel bad for pitbulls.

I rescued a pit bull from a kill shelter. They’re good dogs, just usually stubborn and hyper. Or at least that’s how mine is.

Any breed of dog can be vicious.

But i’ve personally never met a pit bull I didn’t like. And I’ve met several pit bulls.

The only dog I’ve been bitten by is some small ass mutt terrier mix. He gave my leg a huge bruise.

But all the pit bulls I’ve met show no signs of aggression at all.

    It’s up to the owners.

The pit-bull is a dangerous, untrustworthy, and aesthetically displeasing breed of dog, but I don't support their being banned.

Pitbulls aren't any more dangerous than any other dog and they are highly loyal and protective to those it considers family.
