How do you get adults to behave

So I live in student housing. They put 3-5 people in a unit. However, some of us clean and some dont. I specifically clean the most as I dont want rats but everyone is constsntly leaving piles of dishes in the sink for days on end. Recently I got a new job and been at work more often and also joined a church group but if I dont constantly clean a lot of times it just kind of turns into a big mess. We have a group chat but a lot of times when a suggestion is made whoever is doing it says screw off. So like I not sure how to adress any of this? Some context most of the people in this house living off mommy/daddy money.

"How do you get adults to behave?" Spank them and post about it on IIN.

Put up a sign in the kitchen, Your Momma doesn't live here, clean your own dishes and mess. Otherwise dirty dishes will be thrown away at ____(set time) each day.

That might work for the dishes but that won't help in the general cleaning. Talk to the college about contracting a cleaning service and adding it to the housing cost. Let their parents pay for the brats they raised. Unfortunately that will increase your cost as well, unless you accept the contract.

It works sometimes, other times they don't seem to care about their dishes and just start using other people's dishes or eating out/using disposable containers. I'd keep my dishes in my room or locked up, at least for a while.

This is so universal in young adulthood, especially regarding DISHES. I can't offer any advice unfortunately, the only thing that helped me was getting older and eventually getting my own place. However, for humor, there's an odd1sout video on roommates I recommend watching that talks about stuff like this. It's really funny.

    • I mean that is not terribly realistic when every job has no upward mobility and I most rooms are 2-3000 a month. 3000 is literally my monthly income.

I know, I get it. I don't live in the greatest apartment ever but I pay $990 for a two bedroom. For a place in Cali where gunshots aren't ringing out every night that's a bargain!

Depending on the housing options available on campus, it may be possible to switch rooms or move to another living space. Most schools consider changing a housing situation a last choice option.

If they are living off of mommy and daddies money why not profit from it? Of course cleaning it up should not be your problem but taking a considerable market value of your "services" might be a 3rd option to profit from their laziness

    • That does not help me. They are not gonna pay me for cleaning the house.

If they don't want to clean, they won't. It's that simple. It's the downside to roommates and student housing.

The best advice I can give is to put in an official complaint with your college's administration. If an adult doesn't want to clean, they aren't going to. It sounds like yout roommates are assholes and don't care about the fine.

            • Do you think I have a case or do you think I would also be punished for expressing they broke the lease agreement?
