    You just have to be a member for awhile, maybe a few months. Then one day you have the option. They should explain this somewhere; I had to ask when I was new too.

    I think it's either you have to accumulate enough upovotes or you have to be registered for like a month. When you're able to, there's a thumbs down button next to the thumbs up button on other people's comments.

    it's probably earned by a mixture of good karma and how long you have been on this site.

    I got my "thumbass" privilege after I was a member here for six weeks... and I had a lot of comments that had many upvotes

      ItDuz created that neologism and I wanted to be part of the coolkids clan by using it too :P

      I rarely thumb people down though =/ and, when I do, I comment and say why I did it.
