How does long hair get stuck in foam?

I remember i had a couch and when i took off the covers, long hair started to get accumulated over time, causing them

To get embedded in the foam. I would grow this habit of plucking the long hairs out and they would curl at the ends.

sometimes when i tried pulling them out, they would break. It's so satisfying plucking hairs.
