If I were to enter a web page back in 1998 on an average modem, how long should I expect to wait for it to fully load?
I can't remember exactly, and it varied on the page. I used to take a sip of my drink while I waited. But I do remember staring at the little blue 'loading' bar at the bottom of the window for 5 minutes on end, only to conclude that if it was going to work, it would have done so by now. Often, you would get the page itself with the text within the time it takes an entry-level 3G smartphone to do the same these days, and the graphic elements and everything powered by Flash Player or Shockwave would take longer - 1 to 4 minutes - if it was going to work at all (which, again, it often didn't).
