How many high schoolers actually live the teenage dream (in america)

Out of all the students that go to high school, what percentage do you think live the LIFE? By Teenage Dream I mean being the popular rich student athletes on the sport team with the hot girlfriends, that go on spring break and summer break with their friends. Have and drive a nice car once they get their license and get along with their parents. And they get into prestigious Colleges. In other words like the ideal high school life like in the movies.

1-2% 94
2-5% 44
5-10% 36
10-15% 13
15-100% (If you choose this you didn't go to high school. lol) 6
None 43
Who Cares? I enjoyed my high school even though it wasn't Dream-Like 60

I just finished high school this year and couldn't stand one minute of it. I'm looking forward to college, but the "teenage dream" is bullshit unless your family's rich or something along those lines.

i live in a pretty rich area and the majority of people are actually like this. However i would say that nobody is happy because of those things. they are more like distractions from how shitty they feel. The only truly happy people i know are that way because of their personality.
p.s. most people who go to private school are on drugs and have major issues with themselves public school is slightly better in that way

continuation: btw sorry to ruin anyone's idea of the american dream, but it doesn't make you happy. and the car thing is a lie everybody drives the family SUV. also in my experience the more people have the less they are happy like somehow "having everything" makes them (myself included) realize how empty it all is without your own feelings.

I got bullied for not having enough money, I would have to barrow a friends vehicle, I was considered a freak in school, I hung out with the goth or the nerds, I was really great at PE even though I never joined any teams and found the topic boring, I also got picked on since I was smaller and everyone my age/gender was bigger/broader, they also thought I was psychotic. So that did not really help anything, my grades were average. I got a lot of friend torse the end of school. I was skinny most of my life. My original school had mostly upper class and upper middle class and they got whatever they wanted. So I was the biggest loser in the school.

It's hilarious watching those cheesy teen movies where they play up the stereotypes so much. I honestly don't know anyone who fits perfectly into any of those.

Anything that you see on tv always perpetuates this image of the beautiful looking teen that falls in love and lives a perfect life but that world is a fantasy land in my opinion. I am defintely in the 1-2 % majority here. It could be possible but I see it little to none.

  • There is an annoyingly huge population that fall under this category in my high school and they don't let anyone else forget it. Perfect, good grades, all the best clothes, pretty or handsome, rich family, best cars, and mean as heck.

(: I'm not like that! I don't even like America and I hate being half American. The people here are too cocky and ignorant, not all of them but majority of them. They always have a need to defend their country, have pride, and be above everyone else. They really do think they're the best.... And no offense to anymore. It is good that they have opportunities here, but the country is too crowded and in debt. Everything now is getting so expensive and you always have to pay for everything. It's sad that the young ones don't respect their elders and that the elders have to work when they're older. It's soo different because in Japan and in the Philippines [Note: I am half Filipina and my family lives in the PI except for my mother and I, but my mother also speaks and has friends in Japan] or in Asia period a majority of the children their respect the older people and take care of them. It's soo nice because the elders get to relax and not worry about a thing because their families take care of them unlike a majority of Americans, since they don't really get along with their parents they put them in a retirement home! In the schools, a majority ofthe kids cheat and then also once it's summer they forget everything they've learned. They are ranked 21st er....22nd in mathematics and science. Just because they WERE the liberty land doesn't mean they really are anymore. Everyone just takes advantage of the freedom here it seems. But to answer the question. No. No kids have that dream because Hollywood always makes thugs seem that they are this way or that way. Girls in the movies dress differently from girls in relality schools. Schools in real life actually have dress code rules.

To be fair you do not know everyone situations. A lot of adults/parents disown children and simply are too lazy to even take care of one. So they just abandon them or toss them to the side. Not for anything the child did but for the fact the parents just decided one day they dont want kids anymore. Since being a parent is too hard and making that woman pregnant was a mistake. Since they decided to have a midlife crises and the reasonable solution is to take it out on the children. In that parents mind. Not that children should not have respect. Though a lot of parents are not fit parents at all.

I don't like how a lot of people dis America and no I'm not some whiny cry-baby. I'm just standing up for for my country. I hate how people generalize Americans. Some people say we're all fat and that we think we are the best country in the world. Yeah some people in America think and are that (not to be rude, sorry)but not all of us. Besides, none of us are "real" Americans. Our ancestors originated from all over the world. Just so you know. Nobody in this world is perfect. Yeah, some people think they are but they aren't. And what is up with the whole American Dream thing? Everyone knows that being popular and getting along with your parents is stupid. Everyone is hated in one way or another...sorry for my long rant. I tend to do that a lot xD.

It's actually more common than you think - I went to a private middle school and a public high school. The majority of the kids that I went to middle school with are:
    1) attractive
    2) rich
    3) attend good schools (USC, UCLA, UC San Diego, University of the Pacific, Chico State, Phoenix State, etc).
    4) party animals / drinkers / beer pong players.
    5) athletic / in shape / on a sports team.
Considering I left that middle school and opted for a public education (while they all went to top notch private high schools) - they all seem pretty superficial to me - regardless of their "perfect lives".

Ugh, thank God I graduated this year.

I went to public school in a small town. The class diversity there was nuts, you had students from the "1%" and students living well below the poverty line.

Many of the students at my school were from families with money, their parents were college graduates working a professional job. I'd say as much as 30% of them were from Upper Middle Class and above families. They drove really nice vehicles, many SUVs with great sound systems, sports cars, late model economy cars or late model trucks. The goffs/emo kids that are so dark and needed to express their individuality either drove vintage cars (like off Twilight) or uhm... stuff like Pearl White Civics with "I Eat Brains" and "Zombies" bumper stickers. A lot of BMW/Merc Benz cars.

The ones that were not goffic usually had a lot of friends, the guys were jocks and the girls were usually white with the tanning bed skin and bottle blonde hair and they usually dated eachother (with the occasional rich black kid and his white, cheerleader girlfriend). Most were atheletes of some sort and partied pretty hard, they were the ones that got into and made the most trouble at our school.

The lower income kids usually skipped class o got knocked up. The working class and middle class didn't get into much trouble but had a higher rate of pregnancy than the higher class. I don't envy the upper class kids. Many of them are on more drugs and drank more then I ever did. Maybe that's the key to success, Iunno.

Hard to put a finger on any accurate percentage. However, due to family life and life circumstances school can easily be evaded. I am 26, but it took me several years to feel any desire to go to school. I recently took Medical courses, and it made me feel a lot better about myself. However, you can only be where you're at, and patient with that as well.
